All in all Anouk didn’t regret going to the gallery and spending time with Alexei because now she got to spend the night with him. And as reward for everything she was suffering she had three hugs. Happiness outdid sadness this time and a wide smile was curving her lips and she walked home with him. She had to resist the urge of taking his hand, but it wasn’t that difficult because if she got luck she would lay her head on his lap like in old times and enjoy her fairy tale for once. She had never forced her company to Alexei and she didn’t want him to know her feelings because it sure would shatter the peace between them, she had worked very hard to get it. She remembered the first time they met at the park, her mother had introduced them and he had been polite, but she knew better because she was very good at reading, Alexei hated her. Now everything was different, she had melted a spot in his heart for her and she was going to fight for it no matter what, it didn’t matter if it leads her to death. That spot was hers and she wasn’t willing to destroy it so easily. And besides, watching him so happy was the better price for her pain. There was no other way she wanted it if she couldn’t reach her dreams, she could stay like that forever, keeping it to herself and watch him made his life, eventually getting married and making her aunt. And she would be happy for him; she would be delighted, even if her insides screamed in pain and twisted in agony.
“You know, you will have to make me some popcorn for this.” She said turning her head to watch him; she was running some steps ahead of him, practically jumping at Alexei’s happiness and contagious behavior. Anouk had always been a happy girl, laughing and positive, never allowing others bring her down, but lately her mood had darkened a lot and she had discovered sides of her that she never imagined she could have. It was sort of a relief to be feeling herself again and not that stranger she couldn’t recognized when she looked herself at the mirror after nights of parties. “I suddenly have a lot of muse, might stay up tonight to work a bit.” She said to no one in particular forgetting the promise she had made to Alexei not so long ago. But the streets of Paris were beautifully bright in their autumn colors and the air smelled special, or maybe it was just her and her overflowed happiness. She was tempted to stop by the coffee shop again and buy some pastries and coffee but she was in a rush to get home, it would be difficult for Alexei to catch up with her pace but she was sure he wouldn’t mind. Because hadn’t been that happy in a while and she was sure he at least noticed that.
Their apartment came into view and Anouks’ smile widened as she ran up the stairs and opened the door. The house was quiet. “Mom? Dad?” She called, and when no one answered she suppressed the urge of jumping, her lucky start was shinning tonight. She walked toward her bedroom, leaving her coat in the bed and changing to more comfortable clothes to be at home. She combed her air into a ponytail and smiled herself at the mirror. That was her again staring back with those brown lit eyes, happiness clearly in them. And what had it took? Barely the effort of breaking the space that she had created between her and Alexei, and now she knew she wanted it all back, the close sweet relationship they had. She wanted him to be happy again with her around, and she was sure it would be more bearable if he was there to lend her a hand. She walked back into the living room, calling Alexei on her way to the TV and picking the movie with a sigh. “it seems we are alone for the night. You made the popcorn and I get care of them movie.” She just wanted to sit on the couch and make herself comfortable there, and for the first time in weeks her muscles relaxed and her ever present headache went away. That was heaven.

As people grew older, their feelings for their siblings changed dramatically. He was sure that if he had known Anouk from a younger age, the both of them would have gone through a phase where they literally hated each other and hated having to share anything with one another. You could see it in many houses, brother and sister never got along and they thrived to embarrass the other all the time. It was just the way that it always was, but as you grew older you seemed to love your sibling even more and would do anything to see them smile. He was glad that for once, he was the cause of the happiness that Anouk was feeling at that very moment. Since Alexei rarely gave a smile out, it was cute to see him smiling for once. It was just amusing to see Anouk laughing and jumping at everything. The girl, who literally worked for the majority of her day, seemed so carefree, fun and loving right at that very moment. It made Alex feel happily warm on the inside, after all who wouldn’t feel like that after realising that you were the cause of a smile on another person’s face? He knew Anouk had been upset for the past few days, he could tell by the way she acted with people and spoke to them and he was glad to see that scowl on her face change into a smile for once.
Walking through the streets of Paris, he kept his pace calm and relaxed as Anouk ran ahead of him, it was comical for him because she seemed to be so eager in spending time with him, she had never been like that before; but of course, times change don’t they? He was actually happy with the way that they were acting towards one another, civil, friendly and fun, he couldn’t really remember the last time when they had spent more than an hour or so together, but no point in troubling with the past right? Bringing up places and events from the past always somehow managed to cut open a deep new wound, only if they were bad memories of course and Alex didn’t like remembering the horrible times. The burnt line down his back from his shoulder blade always reminded him of the fire burning his entire house down though, there were those few moments when he would remember the screams of his mother and the pounding he felt run through his body in that moment in the past; it was a haunting sound and he wished to get rid of it soon. Slightly shivering due to the autumn wind as Anouk spoke to him, he quickly placed a smile on his face, an eyebrow rose upwards as she spoke of him making the popcorn. “Sure, sure. I’ll make it.” Rolling his eyes, he quickened his pace as he saw how far Anouk had gotten, placing his hands in his pockets and keeping his head down to brace himself against the cold. He rolled his eyes, even though she wouldn’t have seen it. “No, I will crush your muse, tonight is a time for relaxing and sleeping; no art, no nothing.”
He ran up the stairs quickly to their apartment as they reached it, shutting the door and shaking himself as he got himself out of his jacket and hanging it up on the coat. He ran up to his room, smiling as the warmth of the apartment began to surround him, greeting him like a new friend. He walked into his slightly messy room, the dark blue covers thrown backwards, some messy clothes in a pile in the corner and his desk messy with bottles of aftershave and hair spray. His door was left half open as he changed into a pair of sweatpants. He walked down the stairs half naked, not feeling cold anymore even without a shirt on as Anouk spoke to him. He called back. “Yeah, yeah, I’ making it now.” Walking into the kitchen he opened a cupboard, pulling a packet of microwavable popcorn out. Filling a bowl up half way he placed it in the microwave and waited the time set before pulling it out. Popping a few into his mouth he walked into the living room where Anouk was setting up the movie. Placing the bowl in the middle of the table he jumped onto the sofa, picking his legs up and placing his feet on the table. Putting his hands behind his head he smiled. “Ready for Ariel?”

She didn’t really realized how much she needed him until she had closed the distance again. Anouk had been lying to herself all that time thinking everything would be better if she didn’t have to see him all the time. But she needed Alexeis’ smile like she needed air and now she felt as if she was living again. It was strange, the kind of relationship they had, no one would have expected from them to get along so well, to act as if they were really brother and sister, the only one had been her mother who had thrown her at him with those hopes. She smiled, remembering the awkward meeting and how different things were now. She couldn’t stop turning her head every few minutes to make sure he was following, and every time she did Anouk caught his smile on his face. She knew what he face was showing right the moment, she was back being herself. But she had to behave, and so she suppressed most of the love and warm from her eyes and smile and left just the right amount of it. She had mastered those things with the years and now it barely took any effort to pretend. She laughed at his expression when she practically forced him to accept doing the popcorn, she could also act like a spoiled child sometimes but only in front of him. “You’ve got no option anyway.” She said happily and continued her way to the apartment. Today Anouk felt as if her painting would change color, it would turn a bright red, or pink, or green, or yellow, but not blue because she wasn’t feeling sad. Sure her pain was still there but it was fading, it was sleeping waiting for the right moment to attack her again.
She scowled at him when he said he would crush her muse, as if she would ever let that happen. But there was no point arguing with him, once he went to bed she will just go upstairs to her art room and work all night long if she wished to. “Yeah, sure, whatever you say.” She said with a small smile in her face hiding her secret. She had so much secrets to hide but for once this was a good one, one that didn’t open wounds and made her bleed inside. She caught the expression that crossed Alex’s face a second, sure enough he was deep in thought about something unpleasant before she had make him come back to earth with the popcorn thing. The house was welcoming and warm and for the first time in a long while she felt comfortable there, listening to his brother in his bedroom and his footsteps down the hall. She played with her hair a little and raised an eyebrow at him when she turned to find him half naked. She had to bit her lip real hard to keep from eating him with her eyes, in fact she bit it so hard that it bleed. “Ouch!” She shouted surprised at her own stupidity. “Don’t you have something to cover you?” She said dodging the coffee table and picking the remote on her way to the couch, trying to clean her lip of the blood. She sat at the further edge of it now fully aware of how much someone could change in three years, and doubting her own self control to keep her hands off him. She hit the play with more strength that she had intended, and leaned to pick some popcorn of the bowl.
She threw the nearest cushion at him playfully and laughed. “Who would be ready to watch this? Apart from you that’s it.” She said but made herself comfortable. She had seen his film with her mother dozens of times when she was a kid; it had been her favorite movie and she would force her mother to watch it over and over again. It made her remember old times and it felt as if she was getting some of her childhood back, and this time she could share it with Alexei. She wasn’t sure it was such a good idea to fill him in about her childhood, it would felt as if they were real siblings and Anouk didn’t want that, today it was all about her fairy tale and the tiniest possibility of it coming true. That’s why she had picked ‘The Little Mermaid’ after all, because as impossible as the love between Ariel and Eric had seemed somehow it had all worked out in the end. It wasn’t going to work that way for her, especially when she was protecting that secret with her own life. “I used to love this movie when I was a kid, I forced mom to see it like hundred times.” She finally said, maybe she couldn’t get him to be her prince, but at least he was always going to be part of her life, he was going to be there one way or another. And that was enough.

Anouk was in many ways different to Alexei, she was really outgoing, socially active and spent most of her time outside whereas Alex didn’t like being social at all. He preferred to stay indoors and preferred the company of his bed, or his gallery. Making friends with people had never been easy for him, even when he was in high school; he never tried to make friends with people. He was the type of guy that would force people to come talk to him instead of himself coming-out of his comfort zone. That was why he had never expected to get along really well with Anouk, he really was just going to try and ignore her when she first came into his life because he thought that she’d find him boring and old fashioned, after all he was twenty one and she seventeen, in her prime teenage years where she was supposed to be having fun and having just a fabulously good time, she wasn’t really supposed to be trying to make sure that her step brother hated her. He didn’t regret it all; really that was what he thought. Because if he hadn’t sort of disliked her from the beginning, she wouldn’t have tried hard enough to patch up their relationship, she would have just left it if Alexei had liked her from the beginning, and the end result would have been both of them, not really caring, but now they did because Anouk had tried so very hard from the beginning and that was great. He chuckled at her words, rolling his eyes but nodded his head at her, what was the point in arguing over something this silly? Even if it would have been a play fight.
Smiling cheekily at her when she allowed a scowl on her face to appear, Alexei just let it slip, he didn’t want her exerting herself, and he just wanted her to relax for once. She was living life at a super fast pace, not really looking this way and that way, she was just letting life run past her and he didn’t want that. He wanted her to at least slow down for once, long enough to see there were things worth appreciating. When he came down the stairs, his eyes wandered around for a second before he heard an ‘ouch’ escape from Anouk’s mouth. His eyes darted towards her, worry in his eyes as he wondered what had happened. When he saw a red trail stickling down her mouth, he shook his head at her next question. “I like to be comfortable in my own house mom.” He rolled his eyes but smiled at her, and then walking towards her, he sat on the sofa. Leaning towards her, with his thumb he gently brushed her lips. “God, what were you doing hey? Next time be careful.” He wiped his thumb on her clothes like a little kid, a smile on his face as he settled into the sofa. His eyes focused on the television screen in front of them, feeling strangely relaxed in the house for once. It was a good time just sitting down, eating and watching a movie; it was perfect for once.
He grabbed the cushion, his eyes widening in surprising as Anouk threw a pillow at him. He threw it back, trying to hit her head with it. “Hey, Little Mermaid is a classic, and not to mention Ariel’s my dream Disney princess, so shh.” He chuckled, rolling his eyes at her and picking up a few pieces of popcorn in his hand before stuffing them in his mouth. The opening credits began of the film and Alex sighed, nestling into the sofa as the film began. Looking over at Anouk, head moving up so he could see her properly, he smiled at her revelation. “See, no one can resist the mermaid.” He laughed, moving his body he moved closer towards Anouk, putting his head in her lap, with his long arm he pulled the popcorn bowl towards them and handed Anouk the bowl so it would be easier for him to reach instead of having to move forwards all the time. He liked to sleep on people’s laps, it was like a little poodle getting comfortable in his own seat and that was what Alex was doing.

She still couldn’t believe she got Alexei for herself an entire night, with no parents or guys knocking on her door for once. She didn’t have a thing to do but hang with him and spend some quality time with him. Anouk had to admit that if Alexei had been good towards her from the very start she wouldn’t have spend as much of her time as she did around him because she would have been busier with her life. But as things turned out she had to give her very best to make him like her and make her mother happy and she had to put aside her social life at seventeen to make sure her new family life wasn’t going to be a mess. It was ironic how life had paid her up, messing her own life later on and having her going through hell. But right now she could care less, even with life torturing her by having Alexei half-naked in front of her, it was all worth it. She didn’t regret a single thing; she wouldn’t have traded one second of it for a quiet life now. Sometimes Anouk wondered what would have been of her life now if she only let him hate her, if she didn’t care, if she had meet Cass at the right moment. What would she change if she was given the chance to go back on time? Nothing, nothing at all. It all lead to Alexei in one way or another, and though the future wasn’t very promising for her, she still tried to live in the present right now. She raised her eyebrow at him when he said he liked to be comfortable at his own house, but what about her? “Yeah but what about me being comfortable?” She said and laughed a bit.
Sitting at the couch she tried to relax her now again tensed up muscles. Thanks to Alexei and the herculean effort she had to do to keep her eyes away from him. It didn’t help much when he leaned towards her and cleaned the blood from her lips, her face turned brilliant red and she titled it to hide from him. “I was just thinking.” She said mumbling and once she was comfortable seat she looked at the wall until her blush went away. She was conscious of his body but how could she not be? And she couldn’t get why Alexei didn’t realize he was a bit older now than when they met to go around shirtless. But well, she could deal it if he kept his distance and leave her in her corner of the couch. Her heart skipped a beat every time her eyes met his, because he was just breathtaking even in such a state. The movie didn’t interested her much to be honest, she was old enough now to not believe in the fairy tales, and more importantly, she was experienced enough to know there was never a happy ending. She laughed and grabbed the cushion before it hit her placing it under her head and laughing at Alexei.
She stuck her tongue out at him and made a face when he claimed his victory. But of course a small smile danced on her lips at seeing him so happy. “Yeah well, it was fine when I was a kid but now...” She stopped herself mid-sentence because Alexei out of the blue moved his body closer to her and rested his head on her lap, her eyes widened with surprise and she was lucky he couldn’t see her face turning from pale to deep scarlet in matter of seconds because he was very busy finding a more comfortable way to eat the popcorn. Anouk looked back at the wall, her heart pounding loudly in her ears and lost the track of her mind, forgetting what she was about to say. She shook her head trying to calm down turning her eyes to the movie and trying to concentrate on it, but there was no way with him on her lap, with the pressure of his head reminding her of him and the fact that he was close enough to touch, familiar enough with her to let her do so but she couldn’t bring herself to move. She snapped out of it when he handed her the bowl and told herself it was stupid to feel that way but it reminded her so much of something a couple would do that her blush refused to go away.

He was tired, tired of everything that was going on in his life and it was finally great to be able to unwind and relax in front of the television and have some food in front of him. Normally whenever he came home his parents would be in front of the television snuggling up with one another and being so lovey, Anouk was either out or in her room and he never liked to intrude on her, so he always spent most of his time up inside his room, either painting, listening to music or just going to sleep. He really didn’t’ like doing much and during that entire time his painting reflected how boring his life actually was. But now there was no one at home, well except for Anouk and this time she wasn’t locked away so they could have a fun time, well by fun he meant just laze around and fall asleep in front of the television. Ever since he had actually started his gallery and picked it up, his life seemed better, because just seeing other artists ‘works on his wall, it made him light up with glee. He shrugged his shoulders at her question, smirking. “Come on, you’ve seen me like this over a hundred times or so.” He rolled his eyes teasingly.
His muscles seemed to relax as soon as his body hit the sofa; it was a good thing just to feel relaxed. It seemed as if lately everything had been going haywire and he hated when something like that happened. It just made him tense and twitchy and a tensed up Alex was never really that good, because even though he hid his annoyance well it would always come out ton an unsuspecting friend. He raised an eyebrow at her answer but shrugged his shoulders, “Next time don’t think too hard then.” He scolded her in a teasing voice. As soon as he settled in his seat he didn’t look her way again, it was nice to have company next to him but whenever Alex watched a movie he was always interested in it and tended to forget whoever was around him, that was until the sofa suddenly felt cold to him and wanted to sleep on top of her so that she could at least lend him some of the warmth from her body. He was used to cold but when you were indoors you needed some warmth didn’t you? He was a weird little boy who liked things to be specific. He stuck his tongue out, a small pout on his lips when she caught the pillow, he did want her hair to get messed up a little bit; it would have been funny.
He twitched his nose at her, feeling so much childish than he ever had done before in his life, it was weird, it felt awkward but it also felt normal too. The childish side of Alex had always been pushed down for a long time, he didn’t really like showing it, he didn’t want people to think he was an idiot, but he could do this in front of Anouk, mainly because she was his sister and it was like an unwritten rule that siblings could act stupid in front of one another. He rolled his eyes, “Shhh, I love this movie.” He chuckled when she finally shut up and proceeded to make himself comfortable in her lap. Once he was feeling comfortable, his body facing upwards, his face upwards and his head moved towards the side a little so he could see the television and his hand leaning across one of Anouk’s legs, he smiled up at her for a second before turning his attention back to the television. “You know, when I was a kid I was scared of that crab, but now I like him.” He kept his eyes on the screen, smiling as something funny happened.

One thing was seeing your brother half naked when you’ve got no conscience of his body as a man whatsoever and another thing was seeing him when you were head over heels for him. Anouk had troubles keeping her mind in track and her body in control when he was around looking like that, and who could really blame her for it? So Alexei got a point and because she couldn’t go and tell him the real reason she was feeling uncomfortable around him she had to remind silent. It was great to have him there though and she felt herself healing a bit. She had always been out and about when he was at home or in her room painting, knowing he won’t ever knock on her door unless it was very important. More than once when her father had called to check on her she had been tempted of taking his offer and spend some time away from everything, then she will walk down the hall to find her mother very happy and greeting her with a bright smile and all her resolution faltered. She had been hiding from him for so long that it was hilarious, what was she scared of? Him or herself? The answer was obvious now when she had to keep her hands busy to stop them from reaching him.
Anouk raised her hands in surrender and smiled sweetly at him, knowing for once he was feeling as relaxed as she was. The time away from him had only made her think about Alexei more and often had her worried about how much time he spent in his gallery and wondering if he was working too hard. Ironic when it had been her the one working until exhaustion. “I’ll try not to dad.” She answered him in a mocking voice using the same expression Alexei used on her so many times before. “As if that was possible.” She smiled and tried to focus on relaxing and keeping the blush out of her face, little by little she felt herself again. Lately everything had been hard of them, she thought, because they both seemed tired and broke down with the pressure. But her relaxed body tensed up all over again once his head was resting on her lap and his arm across her leg. She had to put her hand over her mouth to keep from laughing so hard at Alexei for being such a child, she loved that side of him that was only for her. He never showed it to anyone else; he could be sweet and act funny toward some people but he never ever showed them this, and she loved the feeling of being that special for him.
She pinched his nose and stuck her tongue out at him. “And you are supposed to be the older one huh?” She said teasing him, but Anouk knew she was as much a child as he was or even more. She just liked to act mature around him, funny and brilliant always perfect so he would notice she wasn’t a kid anymore but a grew up woman who was perfectly able to take care of herself. She wanted him to feel proud of her, to see her in a different light. As far as she knew that wasn’t going to happen but she could at least try. Taking some popcorn she stuffed them into Alex's mouth to shut him up as a childish way of revenge and laughed at him. “Don't shh me, you!” But she did what he said. Once he wasn’t paying attention to her anymore she had green light to watch him instead of the film. She really wasn’t interested in seeing a movie she knew by heart, she just wanted to see Alexei’s face while he enjoyed it. Anouk took a deep breath and with a shook of her head and a small smile on her lips she moved her eyes to the TV too finally giving in. Her hand moved on its own and she didn’t stop it for once, allowing herself to caress Alex’s hair absentminded while she tried to focus on the speech.

He smiled when she had no answer for him, at least this little annoyance was out of the way. Fights between himself and Anouk were always very common, sometimes they were over something big, and sometimes they were always over the littlest things. The big argument always took time to get over, mainly because both of them were so very stubborn Alexei never liked to give in, call him a jerk and what not, but he hated giving in, he didn’t like to seem like the weaker one in the sibling relationship; it just wasn’t for him. If Anouk was a boy then maybe t would have worked out easily, both wouldn’t have felt obligated to apologise and would then just get into their friendly routine easily, but because Anouk was a girl and could hold her stubbornness for as long as him, it became more difficult. It was a good thing that Anouk always apologized, there were many a few times when Alexei came close to apologizing but Anouk was always ahead of him. He never really told her though, because he was used to being known as an asshole form her at times.
Alex was always used to feeling comfortable in the presence of someone else, when he was with himself, alone with his mind, his mind tended to go off into another world, which seemed to show him unimaginable, horrific things. That was the weirdest thing about being an artist; his mind tended to have something on its own and always just went off into another universe. “Good, that’s all I ever ask of you.” He chuckled a little and moved in his seat a bit more. He rolled his eyes at her mimicking facial expression but decided not to comment, at lest she was having a fun time. Alexei had never been in the company of someone so long to know what fun was; he always felt that he was a sort of stick in the mud. But seeing Anouk happy…well maybe he wasn’t as boring as he thought he was? Fun was something good, but not all the time. Sometimes a lot of fun could bring up some troubles, that’s why he sort of strayed away from being with people and anything do do with fun, but stuff like now, watching movies, that was sort of fun. Alexei was sort of old fashioned when it came to that word. His only fun side came out inside of his family, with Anouk and his family, but more so with Anouk because she was younger, at least there was one person who wouldn’t think that he was so very weird when it came to his childish side.
His eyes widened a little and his head moved in her lap to look up at her when she pinched his nose. He stuck his tongue back out at her, “I am most definitely the older one. I’m just the older one who knows how to be…fun.” Sort of struggling with his words, he just shrugged his shoulders, she could take it anyway she wanted, it would anyway, probably end up as a play fight as always. Moving once more to be in a comfortable position, his head gently moved down in her lap while watching the film. His eyes widened once more as a handful of popcorn went inside his mouth, and he coughed harshly, “Hey! Watch it, I almost choked!” He grabbed a handful of popcorn and shoved it in her mouth before making a ‘humph!’ noise and then settling back on to her lap. He smiled every so often as the film progressed, when the song came up, he closed his eyes for a second, it was a beautiful song, and being combined with Anouk’s hand playing with his hair, it felt even better. He moved back a bit so he wouldn’t fall off the sofa and opened his eyes just in time to see the scene change. “Don’t stop please, that feels nice.” He flashed a smile at Anouk and gently sighed, his attention back on the movie.

Fighting and teasing each other was very common between them and it didn’t matter how big the fight was they always found a way around again to be together, mostly because Anouk always gave in to him, like this time and so many others. She was stubborn but he was her weakness and she didn’t mind apologizing to him even if she was the wrong one. She burst out laughing when he rolled his eyes at her, he could be so funny to be around, or maybe it was just her loved blinding her that everything on him seemed adorable. When they fought it was always with love, she didn’t mean to hurt him and whenever they bickered like an old couple she always knew they were going to be good somehow. It was nice for once to hang around with him, to spend the night home watching a movie, eating popcorn and not blasting a party and getting drunk out of her mind. She knew it wasn’t good at all for her what she was doing, but it was her only way out or so she thought. They were so different, Alexei and her, she liked to be the center of attention, she liked to be out and about, the sparkling lights around her, the parties, the rush, how her life never seemed to have a stop and he liked to be locked up in his room doing nothing and never socializing much. She wanted him to have something he could remember, to look back and say ‘I had fun.’ But he seemed to avoid fun things like the plague and she never had much power over him to make him change that.
She laughed again and raised her eyebrow at him, a smirk on her face. “Well you got at least one part right, you are funny.” She said laughing, because it had sounded so doubtful on his mouth he couldn’t even tell if he was fun or not. That was when she realized it should have been hard on him too when their parents decided to get married. He had the same doubts than her, she had always wondered if he found her fun to be around or annoying, if she was doing things right, if she should strop bickering at him and act more like a good girl… Since Alexei hated her from the start she had assumed her never cared much about what she thought of him. She smiled; if he only knew in which light he was seeing him he would probably stop those thoughts. But she had to bit her lips because there was that big possibility of him getting mad at her, so mad that he would start hating her again. She couldn’t handle that, Anouk would rather have him this way than no way at all, and if ever wanted her out of his life it would be the end for her, that was for sure. Anouk laughed so hard when Alexei scolded her for stuffing the popcorn into his mouth that tears run down her face; of course she wasn’t very happy when he did the same to her. “Hey!” It was all she could say while she kept laughing.
Soon Alex was again back into the movie; he looked so cute with his eyes closed and his face so relaxed, free of worry and like a child. It took all her might to stop herself from kissing him but she did a good job at it, like she had been doing all those years. She had kissed so many boys that she didn’t count them anymore, and none of them were special in any way for her so she knew somehow kissing Alexei would be different and would feel completely different, because it was going to mean something. Of course dreaming is free and that was all she could, dream about kissing him. She smiled at him when he told her not to stop playing with his hair; it wasn’t as if she was going to do so anyway. Anouk laughed out loud again and placed her hands on her mouth to silence the sound when the thought of Alexei being a bit girly crossed her mind. Not long ago she had been planning on sleeping on his lap and imagined him doing the very same thing she was doing now to him and it felt as if their parts were changed. “Don’t worry, I wasn’t going to.” As much as she hated to admit it, the film was helping her a bit and it got her daydreaming of he own fairy tale.

He laughed, an eyebrow raised as Anouk commented that he was funny, it was amusing to actually hear that. She was probably one of the first people to ever compliment him like that. Whenever Alexei heard jokes, he hardly laughed because jokes just never seemed funny to him, it was either funny or not. The majority of jokes that he had heard in his life were hardly funny but there were the one or two that made him want to spit. “Thank you Anouk, I think you’re the first person to ever say that. You are…quite funny yourself.” He paused for dramatic effect, he liked doing little things like that which surprised or shocked people, and too bad he hardly ever did anything shocking. The first and last shocking thing that he had ever done in his life must have been when he was fifteen, when he had dyed all of his hair blue and then shaved it all off the next year. He hadn’t told Anouk or her mom about that, although he was pretty sure that his father must have already told his step mom about many a incidents he had in his life. Chuckling when Anouk let out a ‘hey’ from her mouth, he just shrugged his shoulders at her and settled back down onto her lap like a little poodle. Smiling as she didn’t do anything else to him.
It had been such a long time since he had done anything like this, being free of worries was a great thing. He liked the fact that he had no school at all; he didn’t have to study for exams like most kids did so at least that chapter of his life was over. But being an adult also brought in a lot of worries and tension, he was just glad to have this night free of it. When he closed his eyes, he could feel his muscles gently un-gritting themselves as his entire body and mind relaxed. His cheeks sunk in as a deep breath ran through him, this was the life wasn’t it? It was as if Anouk’s touch was putting him to sleep, she was really good at this stuff. A small smile flitted through his lips at the thought and another deep breath left his body. Her voice sounded far away as she spoke, and as his mind began to shut down. His hand gently gripped her leg, his thumb pressing a little hard as he took a hold of her, and as his mind and brain finally stopped working and went into a deep slumber. Alexei hadn’t had enough sleep in the past few days and this was an opportunity that he couldn’t give up, he had forgotten that he was laying down on Anouk, forgotten that he could be giving her pins and needles by the time she managed to get up. But right then his main concern was nothing, he was just fast asleep, breathing gently while the movie carried on.

For some reason she couldn’t understand a lot of childhood memories came to her mind at the oddest moments. Her mother getting ready to leave on a date with his father for their anniversary, spreading perfume and she applied red lipstick on her. She used to love to dress up with her mother clothes and feel like an adult and now that she really fit in her mother clothes she wouldn’t want to use them anymore. It was strange how small things like that could bring you such warm feelings inside. The perfume her mother used was stuck in her mind and refused to leave but she didn’t really care. Smiling softly as she looked down at the sleeping Alexei she felt the world was perfect and that things were going to be just fine, that the world would find a way to have them together. She knew Alexei had a hard time with people, he just didn’t know how to act around them, or maybe it was that he just didn’t care enough to try. Anouk had the impression she was the first one getting that close to him and that made her feel especial. She looked at the screen, the film continuing but she wasn’t watching it at all. Eric and Ariel would had their big wedding, their happy ending and everything will be perfect for them.
While she had to hurt in the distance; she just loved how Alexei held her leg, which she wasn’t feeling anymore because how heavy he was feeling in her lap. But she didn’t dare to even move, not even when the film was over and everything fell silent. She knew he didn’t have a good night of sleep in a very long time too; never mind the fact that he was the one bugging her about sleeping. She kept watching him sleep peacefully and tracing the lines of his face with her fingers hoping the touch wouldn’t give her away about her feelings. Her legs started to hurt a bit as time passed by and she tried to concentrate on a crappy TV show to forget about it, the volume was so low it was barely inaudible but it wasn’t much worth seeing it after all so she didn’t mind, she finished the popcorn all by herself feeling a bit like a cow doing so and sighed. Why was she trying so hard to look beautiful, mature and perfect for him when he would never see her that way? One day far away, maybe when she gets married and had kids, he will snap out of it and realize she was a woman, but still his little sister. That was all she was going to be in his life and she had to learn to deal with it the best possible way. But it was so hard when she had him there so close to touch and so far away, she could imagine he was dreaming about her, she could imagine he loved her. Everything was possible in her happy place.
