Tears, she could feel them coming but she forced them back to their rightful place, not allowing her face to express anything of what she was feeling inside. Ike had forced things, they had been sent into motion and before she knew it Anouk had spelled it all out. Her crush on him, he problem with drugs, her depression even… All that she had been hiding from Alexei, to protect him from getting hurt, had been exposed for the world to know. And of course they had fought, but not like so many other times, it was as if he really hated her and everything about her. But how he could not do so when she was hating herself. Now it was time to stop pretending, she could allow her pain run freely and take over her body, her mind, and drown her forever. But Cass had offered her a hand, a place to stay, and she had plans and friends to meet. People who all in all didn’t give a real damn about her. But it wasn’t as if she could care about it right now. She had hurt the only one she had tried to protect the most. All her effort, all the pain and suffering of those long two years and a half had gone to waste, and the worst thing? She had hurt him. All the pain stabbed her like thousand knives not allowing her to think clearly, her mind was totally numb and her hands were resting over her legs completely limp. It was time she got a shower and washed away the tears.
With a great deal of effort and courage Anouk made her way to the bathroom stumbling and looking for support in the walls. Her throat was burning, her eyes sting willing to let the tears flow down her face. But she won’t let them, there was too much pain to express through only a few tears and it wasn’t her style to show people her feelings, she kept everything for her. Up until that moment, that was it. Not even the caring sweet gesture of Cass had stirred a single emotion out of her, and she had faked until she couldn’t bear it anymore. She was going to see him tonight, possibly to stay there for a long while until things calmed down. Her parents didn’t really have to know. Another stab on her chest, another new pain to care, it was taking her to the point where she was going to break but she refused to believe she was that weak, she had been handling her feeling for years, though depression had come recently and without real reason. Maybe it had been the feeling of loneliness, the drugs, the alcohol, the parties, her empty feelings towards the boy she had dated. She didn’t know how but soon hot water was running above her head, hitting her and bringing her back from her numb state. She let herself sink in the bath tub, water falling from above, making her feel sleepy and not better at all.
She wanted to cry. No, she wanted to stop the pain. The images rushing in her mind, the memories, the feelings, the accusations, the wounds, everything. She wanted the world to vanish right there and then, she wanted everything to disappear, she wanted to be nothing. All she could see in front of her were the titles of the wall and they started to become blurry and black, she started to feel weak and sleepy… then she realized, the water below her feet wasn’t transparent anymore, it was red. She was too out of it to make it click in her brain, it was as if she wasn’t her anymore, she wasn’t the girl who was staring at the razor in her hand, with the cut on her wrist. She wasn’t that girl, but the pain was vanishing with the water and the blood that tinted it. Everything was going black, the world was disappearing and she could care less. She was leaving, she was going to finally put an end to it, break free from the wall around her. She was going to be free, and everything would be alright, the blackness was promising her so. Her thoughts stopped to be coherent, her hands at both sides of her not responding and for a flicker moment she panicked, realizing. But it was too late for that, everything faded to black.

Anger. That was all he was feeling for the past few days. Ever since Anouk had finally told him what was on her mind, ever since she had just finally let it all come out, let all her troubles and worries come out, anger was all he felt. This was pretty scary considering that Alexei was not the type of guy to get angry so very quickly. It took something big, humongous, and something humongous to make him as angry as he was right then. He had no idea why he pressured her, no idea why he had to pressure her into telling him how she felt about him. Why did he even do that? What made him pressure her at all? He was just being an idiot, he honest to God, wished at that very moment that he didn’t have to pressurise her into telling him what she was keeping from him. There was the obvious reason as to why she wanted to keep everything away from him, but still...hiding her depression and the abuse of drugs? If she at least told him that he wouldn’t have felt so left out of her life and she had literally brought this up upon herself. Actually, he was wrong. He couldn’t just blame her for the entire thing, it was probably his fault. She had developed feelings for him and because he was too much of an idiot to grasp that little piece of information in his mind very quickly she had turned to drugs and depression; this was his entire fault and Alexei didn’t even know how to speak to Anouk anymore.
The idea of her liking him though, that idea just blew everything out of the waters. What did she even think of when she started falling for him from the beginning? Why did she have to fall for him? It was as if everything was his fault now that was just the way he felt, as if he had forced her to like him in a way which was not really good for a step sister to feel about her own step brother. He was against the idea of course, his parents would never allow it, his parents would find that wrong and he himself did find that wrong. But there was a change in him in the past few days. In the past few days without talking to Anouk, without seeing her smile or talk to him at all and avoiding him at any cost, it made him think deeply about the situation. They were not blood related, that was a good thing but by law they were siblings right? They couldn’t just get into a relationship; he couldn’t give Anouk what she wanted because he was bound by morals. But he began to see her in a new light; she was gorgeous, really gorgeous. Flawless just like Audrey but just a bit more, she was sweet, funny and cared about him more than any other person but he had to stop those thoughts. He just had to, she was his sister and he couldn’t see her in that way, they were brother and sister for a reason and nothing else, they couldn’t just get into a relationship with each other.
He opened the door to the apartment quite quickly he wasn’t really worried about seeing Anouk. Whenever he was at home she was either out and about partying, socialising or at home, her bedroom door locked and no noise coming from inside and to be honest, those first few days Alex didn’t really care because he was still so very angry with her and she was just doing what he wanted her to, so he didn’t blame her. But soon enough he began to miss her, but since the both of them were so stubborn, both weren’t giving in that easily. Running up the stairs he opened the door to the bathroom, not realising that Anouk was in there. His eyes were downcast, just like thy always were until he looked up to see Anouk in the bathtub. At first he didn’t make anything out of it, but soon his eyes took in the entire picture. The thick blood running down her arms was a dead giveaway for what she had done and his eyes widened in surprise and sorry. His bag dropped to the floor, a little thud escaping and he walked over to Anouk, his heart pounding, blocking out every other noise in the world. He held her hand, blood seeping on to him, his other hand across her face. Lightly he tapped her, “Anouk! Anouk wake up!” Looking around the place with a worried look, all sense of logic flew out of his mind and he had no idea what to do. “Anouk, Anouk get up! Get up sweetheart, get up! Fuck Anouk, what the fuck?”

Someone as self centered as him should be the one making people wait and not the other way around. There wasn’t much he could do about it though. Cass told Anouk she could crash at his place and he wasn’t backing off on that one. He still wasn’t too sure what the entire argument with her brother had been about as he arrived a minute or two late to said argument but all he knew was that a friend needed help and he offered it. It wasn’t even like previous arguments; Cass had seen them bickering back and forth more often than not and most of the times the main topic was either himself or Alex’s assistant. He didn’t know the chick but he was pretty sure she wasn’t as bad as Anouk wanted to think, just like he wasn’t as bad as Alex thought… he was close but he definitely could be worse.
A bouncy ball hit the wall and returned to Cass who caught it with skill. The same process was being repeated over and over as it had been for the past hour. Anouk was supposed to be here by now, Cass was supposed to set her up in his place, hand over a spare key and they would be off for some fun… maybe they could try something different this time, something normal couples did like… movies or some other shit. The thought of the word ‘couple’ made him miss his bouncy ball this one time. It sounded so alien, and so out of place. He and Anouk were together, that was a given, but there was something about people like him and Anouk that just didn’t simply fit into a normal relationship. Cass still flirted with anything that moved and Anouk still partied around with or without him and yet they still hovered towards each other. Cass didn’t know what this gravity force was about but so far it worked. It worked so well that he even went off his comfort zone to invite her to stay until stuff straightened up with her brother. Cass didn’t know Alex that well but in his opinion he had a stick in his ass, and didn’t deserve to have a nice sister like Anouk.
Oh well, it was even later now and Cass was even more tired of waiting. She did mention something about him picking her up if she took too long right? Might as well please the lady. Picking his wallet, phone and keys up he smashed the door close and off he was to Anouk’s place.
The road was all too familiar for him already. They didn’t live exactly close but a short bus ride fixed that. Hopping off the bus in that attention seeking yet graceful style of his he got up to the apartment complex and entered the door. No one really bothered to question who he was or what he was doing there as lately his face was a common one around. He picked Anouk up a lot and he dropped her off a lot as well. Sometimes he even took a detour to her place in the mornings so they could walk to school. Man, he was such a considered boyfriend/toy/whatever the fuck he was to her. Lucky for him mama and papa-Anouk were out. He figured they wouldn’t really be pleased to see his face when he was there to take their precious baby away from them. Stopping in front of the door he lifted his hand to knock but stopped when a crack indicated it was actually open. Tilting his head in curiosity he peeked inside to see if there was something going on inside. Trespassing and invading private property weren’t things Cass was exactly into, especially when the possibilities of Alex being inside were high. “Helloooo~” He called with enlarged vocals to emphasize his presence but got no answer. Instead he heard Alex’s voice and an inner cringe forced him to step behind. He didn’t hear what he said the first time but the second time came to him clear as water. He was calling for Anouk and realization instantly sank on Cass’s chest and took the color away from his already pale face.
Running to the source of Alex’s voice he found what he thought he would find… much to his fear. “What the fuck…” He managed to say from the bathroom door, shocked at the entire scene, the blood and the fact that Anouk wasn’t moving. “What are you doing!?” He didn’t know who the question was for, to Anouk for doing something so stupid or to Alex for doing something even MORE stupid and just kneeling next to her like that. “C’mon dude move! Call an ambulance or something!” He wanted to kick Alexei’s face and throw her off Anouk right now. “Never fucking mind I’ll do it.” He said as he took out his cell phone. Practically trembling he called the emergency number and waited for an answer. Luckily this wasn’t some third world country and help didn’t take too long to arrive. Closing his phone after answering the questions he kneeled next to Anouk, facing Alexei and shooting him a menacing glare. “This is all your fault, asshole.” He decalred. It wasn’t the time to throw the guilt around but then again, Cass wasn’t exactly the type to react decently or normally or even rationally in an emergency situation.

Alexei was never good with doing anything in a horrible situation, his life and horrible situations had never meshed together very well at all, and it was as if he went into some sort of bizarre shock whenever he came into a situation where he didn’t know what to do. It was sort of like a movie scene in that bathroom right there and then, time literally stopped for Alexei and his mind was twisted in confusion. The blood on Anouk’s arm seemed fake but yet so real, it was as if he were watching the scene from another person’s point of view. He was being stupid, he knew that, his mind was telling him to call an ambulance, to get some help from someone, to pick up his stupid phone and call them there and then but his body was still in a state of shock, his brain wasn’t sending any chemical messages around his body and his body wasn’t reacting at all. He was just looking over the scene like a passer by.
A fair few years ago, when the fire happened in the house, where his mom burned alive and where he had received his burnt back; Alexei had acted in a similar way. Though of course, people wouldn’t really blame him as he was a young child but he still blamed himself. He stood in the corner of the room, in shock at the burning embers falling around him in forms of ash. At that moment when his face was sweaty and bruised from falling pieces of wood a ledge had fallen on top of him, something which had struck him hard and burnt his entire back, a thick line of burnt flesh still remained in a diagonal shape from his right shoulder blade all the way to his waist. It was the only memory of what really had happened at that very moment, it was the memory that showed him how much of a coward he was. After he had been hit by the ledge he didn’t have the strength to get up, if he did maybe he could have saved his mom, if he did then maybe he could have called for help sooner instead of having a neighbour see what had happened and calling the fire brigade. If he had been more active, if he could have just done something different in that moment, then maybe his mom could have survived. It was just a matter of ‘if,’ all those questions just rang through his head and corrupted his own mind, making him feel as if it was all his fault. Which, it probably was.
His mind was only pulled out of his small, bubble brain when he heard the voice of another man behind him. At first he thought that it was his father, his eyes showing a sign of relief but when he caught sight of Cass, a scowl placed itself on his lips, his eyes narrowing into a glare. He didn’t like this guy at all, what in the world was he doing in their house? Why did he have to come in now for? He was suddenly surprised at the tone in Cass’s voice. His hands suddenly let go of Anouk’s arm, still in a state of shock. Quietly he watched as Cass phoned an ambulance himself, his hands were slightly shaking but he held them firm, forming them into small fists as Cass finished his phone call with the ambulance and knelt beside Anouk. He glared back at Cass, gritting his teeth as the boy blamed everything on him. “My fault? It’s probably all your fault, you’ve literally been the fucking cause of everything.” He had no idea why he was blaming Cass, it probably wasn’t Cass’s fault that Anouk had slit herself, but at that moment Alex had the urge to blame someone apart from himself. He didn’t want the responsibility on himself anymore; he didn’t want people blaming him at all. “It’s all your fault.” He mumbled to himself, but this time he wasn’t even speaking to Cass, he was speaking to himself; it really was his fault wasn’t it?

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Cass’s life had been all too normal so far. Or well… as normal as the life of an artist could be. Sure, he went to parties and he did a lot of stuff that his liver would probably regret later but it wasn’t really anything no one had ever done before. He didn’t have a traumatic childhood; he didn’t have anything to feel afraid or to feel angry for. He was very normal, even average if you took a deep look at him. It was why he strived to be someone above average, to be noticed and to be recognized by people. He acted like a bumbling fool all the time; he annoyed people on purpose and he made sure a lot of people, if not everyone, knew who he was. But none of those attention seeking problems seemed to be important when compared to someone else’s. Like Anouk’s perhaps. Cass never quite imagined how far her problems would go that she came down to this. It probably came with the ‘being an egocentric bastard’ package.
His hands wouldn’t stop trembling. He had never been in a situation like this one before. He had never seen so much blood and he certainly had never seen anyone in the verge of death; even less someone he was very close to. Anouk looked so pale to him, and still Alexei seemed to be able to do was sit there like an idiot. Half of Cass’s shaking was due to anger. Yes, he did blame Alex on this one. There wasn’t a single moment in which he didn’t spike an argument with Anouk whenever he was around. Right now Cass was skillfully avoiding the fact that Anouk didn’t exactly do much to avoid said arguments and if anything she participated in them as actively (if not much more) as Alex did. There wasn’t much space for coherent thinking right now, and all he could actually concentrate in was the two people in front of him. “Oh so now it’s my fault?” Cass said with a defying tone while lifting his upper body so he was sort of towering over Alex. “Excuse me but who is the one who’s always pestering her whenever she’s with me, or over what she does, where she goes and who she goes with? Let me give you a hint. It’s YOU.” He pointed a menacing index to Alex’s face. There was a whole world of other things to consider in this argument but the pressing situation didn’t allow any room for sitting back and think things over. “She had problems, mate! And all you did was shove your fucking assistant’s face on hers when all she wanted was for you to give her some attention.” His British accent was even heavier and thicker as he wasn’t bothering to tone it down with all the things that were running in his head. “Don’t even dare to go all emo on me and hide in your pity corner. This is your fault and these are the consequences.” Cass waved his arms rather frantically referring to the entire situation. This would NOT be his fault, and even if it was a bit he wouldn’t let some stuck up gallery owner rub it in his face.
“Can’t you do anything right? At least hold her correctly while help gets here!” The adrenaline in his veins wasn’t doing him much good. He wanted to shove Alex away and hold Anouk but that would only bring more problems. Instead he grabbed her wrist hard and tight trying to stop the blood from pouring out and tainting his own hands with it. It was warm, her blood was too warm but her skin was just too pale and cold. Feeling the red drops drip from his fingers he couldn’t stop a drowned whimper from coming out. He didn’t want to look at her face and see the same pale color in her once rosy cheeks. “It’s your fault.” He repeated with a broken voice and holding back a couple tears that turned his blue eyes into glassy orbs. “It’s all your fault.” He didn’t know what else to say and by now the mantra was more of a way to convince himself than anything. “WHERE’S THE AMBULANCE!” He yelled out of nowhere, still applying pressure to Anouk’s wrist but not managing much. He didn’t want to let go of her. Doing so would feel as if he lost her and that she wouldn’t be back. If he released her… he’d probably turn and jump at Alexei as well. He would try to kick his ass into oblivion for being a stupid asshole and the worst brother in the world.

It was as if God was punishing Alexei for being such a bastard to Anouk, as if He wanted to punish Alexei for no apparent reason at all. Why did she have to do this for? It was as if she was punishing him too, she had always spoken about not wanting to hurt him but now she did this?! It was as if she wanted to hurt him double jut because he had rejected her, he knew he had broken her heart, what girl wouldn’t be heart broken when being rejected by the guy that they loved? But you also had to think about the future didn’t you? What if Alex and Anouk had gotten together? That probably would have been perfect right? But then they’d have to keep it as a secret, they wouldn’t be able to show most of the world that they were in a relationship because a relationship like that was always looked down upon, it was as if it was something taboo. Then there was the whole ordeal of trying to keep it away from their parents, obviously living in the same house wasn’t going to do the both of them good because if they got into a relationship they’d always want to be together. But what if they broke up after a few years? Anouk was only nineteen, she didn’t know what she wanted, when he was nineteen the only thing he thought about was passing exams and who he was going to have sex with for the next few months, oh and food. Those three things were always on his mind and still were. He was probably being a spoilt idiot, just like Anouk always told him, he had to start thinking about her, and maybe he should just give in to what she wants? Maybe? It wouldn’t hurt anyone would it? Just maybe the both of them if it ever came to an end but they would deal with that porthole later on in life, right now he knew what he wanted and all it took was seeing Anouk lying on the floor, squirting blood out of herself. He loved her and really did want her.
The sudden revelation was suddenly washed away though because of Cass’s trembling form and his sharp words. Alexei’s eyes narrowed instantly, a rising anger growing from deep within him as he listened to Cassius shouting at him and listened to his harsh words. He didn’t move back from Cass’s towering body but stayed where he was, he wasn’t a fighting sort of guy but if Cass did start something, Alexei wouldn’t be afraid to retaliate, he would make sure of that. “Well if you weren’t such an asshole maybe I would have stopped pestering her. After all what girl would want a relationship with you? You’re nothing but a man whore who ‘ll probably live the rest of his life living on the streets!” Alex actually had no idea what he was saying, words were just coming out of his mouth and his brain wasn’t comprehending anything, he was just angry and when he was angry, spits just came out from everywhere. He slapped Cass’s finger away from him, finding it stupid that the boy wanted an argument from him, well if that was what he wanted, Alex would make sure that he would receive it. “She had problems? Then why didn’t you make sure you did something about it? Just by fucking letting her live in your house didn’t sort anything out. Id you were in love with her, if you truly cared about her, you’d have tried to stop this! You should have bloody made sure that she never got to a stage like this; ever!” Alexei looked at Anouk’s body, which was slowly becoming pale because of the amount of blood that was rapidly coming out. He didn’t even bother to look at Cass, his worried eyes praying for a way to make everything right. “I know there are consequences you bastard, but don’t forget it was you too, so stop hiding behind your manly façade and be a man by owning up, at least I know what I did wrong.”
His hands were already covered in blood and mainly because he wasn’t holding Anouk properly, his mind was cleaned of all first aid training that he had done a few years ago. Scowling when Cass put his own hands out and held Anouk, Alexei moved back, gently pushing the hair away from her face, it was one thing that she hated quite a bit so her hair was mostly short all the time because of it., while keeping a hand pressed against her other deep cut. A confused look passed across his face in he middle of his praying when Cass let out a whimper. Now Alex wasn’t a religious guy, but this was a time needed, he needed to make sure that his Anouk would make it out alive. He didn’t say anything the first time Cass spoke, the second time he spoke he rolled his eyes. “I fucking know, and it was yours too so just shut the hell up.” Gritting his teeth, his muscles became tense and a vein popped out on the side of his neck. Moving closer to Anouk, keeping the pressure the same, Alexei’s eyes widened a little as Cass let out scream. He looked around the room, trying to remember how long it had been since the phone call. “FUCK!” He swore in French, curses flowing one after the other, a prayer leaving half way too. Scrambling for his phone with one hand, Alexei opened it and called the ambulance once more, a van had been sent ten minutes ago but they still weren’t there! He looked at Cass. “Pick her up, we’re taking her there ourselves.” They couldn’t wait anymore for a van, if they did they would lose her, he was sure of that and he didn’t want that. He loved her.

Panic had been the last thing she had felt when her eyes closed hopefully forever. Darkness had closed over her and had her trapped in some kind of dumb state, she wasn’t death yet but she soon would be, she knew it, she could feel it coming. It was very easy to let herself go, there was nothing to fear anymore, no pain to handle, no truths to face, no problems to solve… She couldn’t hurt him anymore; she couldn’t hurt anyone anymore with that last selfish act. There was something beautiful about the whole picture, such calm and peace in that black nothingness, as if she was floating in the space. Then she was pulled out of it but a sharp pain in some part of her body but she couldn’t tell, suddenly her peace shattered and then in her mind there was his face. Beautiful, perfect and happy; with that wicked smile she loved on him so much, you could see his soft dimple in the right corner of his mouth, and that spark of life in his eyes. A voice came along with it, very soft and distant. Anouk tried to focus on but her mind refused, her mind wanted the darkness, her body wanted to let go and for a second she agreed with both, until the voice came cleared and she recognized it.
Alexei was crying out her name, he was calling her, he was calling her back. Anouk tried to fight the dumbness, but her body refused to move, she wanted to speak but she couldn’t find her voice. Then she was up, someone carrying her, suddenly she was out of the darkness for a second but her body still refused to move. With what she hope would be her last breath; she said the only thing that was left to say. The only thing that will end everything and then she would be able to finally let go. “Alex…” Her voice was such a soft whisper, so weak, so lifeless… but she needed to say something more before going away forever. “I love you.” Now, everything was said and done, she had tried, she had given her best and she had failed at it. Her brain registered being lifted and carried at some point. A distant corner of her mind reminded her of Cass and how much she was going to hurt him, but she had spend her strength in that one sentence, and so she let go, titling her head to the side, ready for what was ahead of her.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Cass couldn’t believe how much this was getting to him. So much for having a still heart and cold blood. Oh wait, he never actually claimed he had any. Alex was right, and he knew he was right as well. They were both very guilty of this and they would go to hell if Anouk died because of this. He wasn’t particularly religious or anything, his mother’s teachings had gone to deaf ears as Cass faked to be a good boy through all those Sunday church days. He knew though, that this was the type of thing that marked people for the rest of their lives. Especially when he was as guilty as he claimed Alex was. He could say it was the other’s fault all he wanted but the whimper that escaped his lips was proof that he didn’t believe what he just said as much as he wanted to. In the end he was still being selfish and a self centered bastard. He didn’t want anouk to die because if she did, it would be his fault. They were just one bunch of messed up people and Cass couldn’t help but feel disgusted about it. Not even the blood that was drying on his hands or clogging on the floor made him feel as sick as the short yet accurate analysis of the situation that his mind had formed in a split second of coherence.
If Anouk hadn’t partied so hard; if he hadn’t found her that night; if they hadn’t become party buddies; if Alex hadn’t been such an asshole; if Anouk had spoken to him about it; if he had only bothered to ask what was wrong with her; if he had only listened… If. If. If. His mother used to say that If was the tense for idiots. Nothing good came out of thinking ‘what if’ just as nothing good came from dwelling in the past. Cass figured his mother was all too right but… he couldn’t help thinking just what if things had been different at any point in their short term history Anouk wouldn’t be lying here on a poodle of blood.
Cass didn’t even have the strength to reply to Alex anymore. Before his eyes the pool of blood spread over the cold bathroom floor seemed to grow and his mind instantly formed a tunnel that focused on Anouk. He did hear what Alex said and for once he had to agree with the older male. Picking Anouk up was an easy task. Cass was tall and while he wasn’t the strongest Anouk was light as a feather even in an unconscious state. His right arm went to rest on her back while his left one on the crook behind her knees and the adrenaline helped to lift her up as if he was carrying nothing. Carefully, but still quickly enough, he exited the bathroom and headed to the front door which he had left wide open. Anouk stirring on his arms stopped him for a second and he halted his moves at the realization that she was still alive and with enough strength to claw at a conscious state even for a few seconds. “Anouk?” He tried to call her but her eyes were unfocused and she was mumbling something. Reaching close he listened to her soft and barely audible voice… calling for Alex. “Aw COME ON!” He said and would’ve thrown his arms up in frustration but they were busy carrying Anouk. “She calls for the guy who was letting her die on the bathroom like a bloody idiot! This is just marvelous!!” His annoyance was clear and served as a mask for a little bit of a broken heart. He never really expected to end up with Anouk in the faerie tale they claimed to share but having it rubbed on his face wasn’t exactly pleasant either. The anger and disappointment didn’t stop him from rushing down the hallway. “Call the bloody elevator at least will ya?” He practically barked at Alex, not really wanting to risk tripping and falling down the stairs along with anouk. “Of all the things she could’ve said to my face…” He mumbled to himself, concern still evident in his actions but now there was an extra bit called jealousy.

There was shock lodged inside his brain, who wouldn’t have that? It was as if this entire situation as just stopping him from thinking, it was dumbfounding him and he didn’t like it at all. He was Anouk’s brother, he had to take care of her, and he was there for her protection. But now he was also her lover, was he not? Even if he hadn’t told her, he know believed him to be and that gave him all the more reason just to be protective over her. He should have been the one holding her right now and making sure that she wasn’t losing anymore of herself, but no, Cass was there and a strange feeling went up his core. It was something angry, mixed in with something else. But Alexei wanted to hold it in, he couldn’t let this weird feeling just suddenly come out of himself, it wouldn’t help him and it would definitely not help Anouk either, he was supposed to be the calm, realistic one and he was trying to keep that in mind.
He waited for Cass to begin picking up Anouk, they couldn’t waste any more time, and they just couldn’t. This was what he hated about doctors and nurses and ambulance vans, they say they’ll be at the spot of the accident in less than a few seconds and it takes them over ten minutes just to get there, if Anouk died he was going to hurt one of them real bad, it was just in his head that he would. But she couldn’t die, he wouldn’t let, he wouldn’t allow her to die, not straight after he had realised that he had loved her, that couldn’t just happen. Everything bad was already happening to him, there had to be at least one good thing right? The angry feeling went up his body once more, and Alexei shuddered, pushing it deep down inside of him, he wouldn’t let it out. It was like an ongoing mantra in his head. He walked down the stairs ahead of Cass, opening doors to make sure that Anouk wouldn’t hit herself against it, because Cass looked really unstable at that very moment, he bit his tongue thought to make any sharp comments, any one thing he said at that moment could delay them even more and he wasn’t intending on letting that happen.
He stopped for a second when Cass spoke her name; he stopped in his tracks and turned around, a waiting, eager face planted on him. He was hoping she’d wake up, hoping that she showed some sign of strength that she wasn’t going to leave him alone, not in this world at least. He couldn’t have her gone, the idea was firmly planted in his head and he needed for it to go away. So when Anouk finally spoke, his inner being just lightened up like a Christmas tree. Did she really just say that? He looked up in Cass at surprise, a smirk on his face, but he was trying to hide it, he didn’t need Cass to get anymore upset than he already was. He wanted to smile though, she had said she loved him, she loved it. Those three words were just going around in his head like flying baby cupids, and it was a marvellous feeling. He walked faster down the hall though and did as Cass told him to, it took the elevator exactly ten seconds to come up, rushing in and waiting for Cass to come in, he quickly pressed the ground floor button. It took another hearty ten seconds to get down to the ground floor and he groaned, why were they going so slow? As he heard Cass speak once more, he smirked, it wasn’t going to go from his face anytime soon really. “Come on, you can talk about that later to yourself, get her into my car though.” Rushing ahead, he opened the back seats of his car and placed himself in the driver’s seat; a goofy smile still stuck on his face. It was the wrong time to be smiling but Alexei was just giddy with love.

Fucking elevator… Cass’ face still showed annoyance and concern. How was that even possible? Two emotions which weren’t compatible at all were reflected on his face, clear as water. Perhaps it was because the concern was for Anouk, while the annoyance was for Alex. Seeing the faintest ghost of a smirk appear on his face was enough to make Cass want to punch it off. He was currently carrying Anouk though, and it might have caused some problems along with a few lawsuits brought upon his British ass. The elevator took another ten full seconds to reach the bottom floor and that only left Cass bristling with anger, as if he wasn’t before. He wanted to follow his primary instincts, to drop Anouk, punch Alex and maybe howl to the moonlight but that rational part of his brain was telling him and pointing out the stupidity of all that. For starters he couldn’t drop Anouk just like that, then he could punch Alex and if he was lucky enough he’d hit a nerve and leave that asshole with a permanent grin so that whenever he looked at himself in the mirror he would remember why he shouldn’t have smirked at Cass like that… and lastly… there was no friggin’ moon at the moment.
Ok, enough animalistic tendencies for the moment. Alex opened the door but not before going ahead and saying something completely and absolutely stupid. “Oh for the love of… drop that smirk from your stupid French face before I punch it out. Your SISTER is dying here in case you haven’t noticed.” He motioned for Anouk as he got inside the car. It wasn’t an easy task mind you, but in the end he managed to get in so that Anouk was half on his lap and her legs rested on the seat. That way he would be able to hold onto her wrists again and attempt to stop the blood flow. The mood wasn’t entirely different, there was still concern and an urge to get Anouk to safety that came from both of them but now Cass had that little sting on his pride and Alex was wearing that dorky grin. Shooting daggers at the mirror Ciaran decided that the only way to let his frustration out was spitting threats and nastiness at Alex, like any mature man would do… not. “And you better stop whatever crazy train of thought is going on in your head and drive like a mad man or I’ll strangle you from back here and drive myself.” He was angry, and there was really no other way to put it. Anouk had practically slapped him in front of the only person he would’ve wished to humiliate and ended up being the one on the bottom. To Cass that was just simply unacceptable… and ok, he was being irrational but he also had a bleeding girl on his lap.
The trip to the hospital felt like an eternity, and he of course would point out that Alex drove like a fucking granny on valium once they got there. Cass could hear the ambulance in the distance but they had no time to waste, even if Alex indeed drove as a grandmother with poor sight they still would get there first, plus paramedics had a tendency to ask stupid questions like ‘how it happened’ because dude, CLEARLY there was the possibility she tripped and sliced her wrists with all the razors they used as bathroom carpet. It was simply stupid. Such crazy thoughts ran through his head as he flipped his eyes from Alex, the road and back to the unconscious Anouk. Part of him wanted her to wake up and go ‘lol I was just joking!’ but chances of that happening were slim to none. They would get to the hospital soon, and Anouk would be perfectly alright… and as soon as they had confirmation that she would be ok he’d jump at Alex and break his friggin’ French face in two!
