don't know what you need ,
The music hall was not somewhere that you'd expect to find a deaf student, but Emmi didn't like to feel tied down and so instead of resigning herself to the drama room she was sitting at a piano. She wasn't a talented pianist but she'd taken it up for a few years and was good enough to play a few songs, though she couldn't hear she could feel the music and she knew her way around the keyboard well enough to avoid bum notes. She was playing a new song, 'best thing I never had' by beyonce, she'd played it to her friends and they'd assured her it sounded nice so here she was, playing to an empty audience but loving every minute of it. She knew people didn't understand it but she loved the feeling of the keys under her fingers, it couldn't be compared or replaced with anything, it was unique. She was unaware of everything around her as she watched her fingers dance over the keys, it wasn't a difficult song but she just imagined the noise that filled the air, though she should be unaware of the tune. Music had always been a part of Emmi's life and she was able to play by ear sometimes which meant that she could hear the song in her head, though she'd never actually heard it.
Emmi's mind was on a lot of things most of the time but for now it was on boys, most likely because the song she was playing was kind of an anti-lovesong. There were quite a few cute boys at the school and she often exchanged flirty looks but as soon as they saw her hearing aid or heard her speak they tended to freeze up and walk away, which was upsetting but Emmi knew she had good looks on her side. She wasn't the most popular girl in school but she knew she was attractive, and that's her being modest. She attempted to make up what she lacked in hearing ability with her body and her reputation, though it was hard to become the flirty girl if no boys dared come near her. Even the ones who thought she was fit were too scared to initiate anything because they worried they'd get in trouble for 'taking advantage' of the deaf girl. Truth was before she'd lost her hearing Emmi was on the way to being known as the school flirt but that day changed a lot of things and her ability to attract guys seemed to be one of them. There were plenty of guys falling over their feet to ask her out at her 'coping with being deaf' classes but Emmi didn't want to be one of those people that confined themselves to the deaf community, she wanted more than that.
The music engulfed Emmi and she probably wouldn't have noticed if a team of irish dancers had entered the room and were performing Riverdance, though I can assure you this wasn't happening, or at least I hope not. She became just as entranced when she was in character however when she was acting she had to react to other actors which meant she couldn't shut off her other senses, she had to use her eyes far more than normal, but she adored acting so it didn't bother her. She'd given up on trying to convince those that decided her 'disability' meant she shouldn't be able to act but most of those people wouldn't have known Emmi was deaf until they noticed her interpreter or tried to get her attention when standing behind her, she did a better job of acting not deaf than they did at acting not blind, they couldn't see talent when it was sat right in front of them.
