PERSONALITY,there are a lot of sides to stefan. the face that he shows the press, the face that he shows his fans, the one he shows to his co-workers, the one he shows to his family... the list could go on forever, really. no two people see the same person when they look at stefan winters, and that's the way he wants it to be. around complete strangers, stefan is actually the closest to his real personality. he's quiet, drawn into his own world, and tends to ignore people if they don't approach him. even when people he doesn't know (or, honestly, people that don't know him) talk to him, he still isn't really sure what to do. stefan can be insecure sometimes, and when he doesn't know what the public opinion wants him to act like, he's just lost. he still tries to deal with any situation he's thrown into, though, and he manages to adapt most of the time. especially in new situations, his acting skills normally come into play, because that's just what's most natural to him.
most of his personality revolves around public opinion. if people want the actor to be sweet, he'll help senior citizens across the street, laugh and smile whenever he can, and be generally... well, sweet. he gives people what they want, even if it's nothing like his actual personality. life is just one big stage to him, especially when it comes to making an impression on the press and earning a good reputation in the eyes of his viewers. after all, stefan doesn't want to lose his job (that would just be a huge disaster for him), so he tries his best to stay on the good side of the people who are supplying him with money and a job. of course, he only takes on a certain image when everyone wants him to. when there are a few specific people that he dislikes, he becomes himself around them, and he isn't exactly pretty. stefan is a perfectionist, and though he accepted a long time ago that he can't excel in everything, he still wants to be perfect at the things that he can do. and in stefan's mind, making himself better is the same as making other people worse. so what does he do when he honestly dislikes someone? well, he can be quite rude, but he always tries to keep that side of him hidden from the eyes of the public.
stefan isn't all bad, though. sure, he's rude and acts his way through life, but there's a real stefan buried somewhere inside of him. he can have a sharp tongue, dull eyes, or he can be the sweetest guy in the world. honestly, though? that side of him is only shown around his closest friends and his younger sister. he can be caring, and when he really starts to love someone, he'd give them anything. stefan is amazingly selfish though, and he'd never throw himself in front of a bullet, even for the most important people in his life. and since we're wading back into stefan's negative traits, it might be important to mention that he's not in any way loyal. he can love someone with all his heart and still find it perfectly reasonable to play around with others, which he actually does on quite a regular basis. it's not completely impossible for stefan to feel regret, though. he also does that on a regular basis, which is also why he doesn't want his girlfriend to find out about him sleeping around. or anyone, for that matter...---------------- HISTORY ---------------FATHER, johan winters

HISTORY,stefan grew up in a pretty normal home. his parents had stefan when they were both in their early twenties, so they were rather relaxed about the whole idea of parenting, and adored stefan with their whole hearts. there weren't many rules as long as stefan avoided drugs and gangs, which he did, and everything was fine. he was a happy kid, always laughing and smiling, and friends were abundant for him. his grades in school were average, as he learned quite quickly, but tended to neglect the subjects that didn't hold any interest for him. he was simply... normal. there was nothing wrong with him. at least, that was true until his little sister was born. when stefan was eight, his parents decided to have another child. the second winters child was a girl, and sadly enough, she was the thing that caused the family to no longer be so normal. when little julia was born with down syndrome, things kind of fell apart for the happy little family. everyone tried their hardest, but both parents were obviously stressed, and that stress affected stefan in the wrong way. unknowingly, by taking their attention away from stefan and giving it to the disabled julia, stefan's parents were sending the message that they were trying to fix things.
really, they were trying their hardest to give julia a good life and simply deal with the hand they had been given, but stefan saw it in another way entirely. in his mind, their efforts to fix julia were failing, and that was the cause of all their stress. signe and johan would never dream of trying to change their precious daughter, but who could blame stefan for what his eight year old mind thought of things? with his little sister so obviously broken, stefan began considering it as his job to relieve his parents of stress. and how did he do that? well, he thought that if he was the perfect child, then his parents wouldn't have to stress over him as well as julia. so he pushed himself to be perfect, pulling his grades out of their grave and spending as much time away from his house as he could. as he got older, his mental condition just got worse, progressing until he even felt required to lose weight and slap his personality into shape. maybe the issue could have been resolved if his parents had stepped in and told him that it was fine to be himself, but they never did. they saw what he was doing and worried a bit more, but they were too busy with julia to make stefan stop trying to be the ideal son.
some of his friends noticed, but none of them could convince him to stop. only his parents were able to do that, and seeing as they never stepped in, the problem just got worse and worse. tension built up, and even though stefan was unhappy with what he was putting himself through, he just kept going and pretended that everything was fine. it was like self taught acting classes, honestly, and it fooled all but the closest of his friends. he was still social, though, seeing as “friends” was one of the things that he considered perfect. so when a new kid transferred into his highschool, it wasn't surprising that she was welcomed into stefan's rather large group of friends. she stayed on the fringes of the group for quite a while, though. astrid never allowed anyone over to her house, at least, not until stefan's parents visited the school for a teacher parent conference... and brought julia along with them. now, it wasn't like stefan has been keeping julia a secret from everyone (as anyone who knew him in elementary school knew that it was her who had caused him to change so much), but he hadn't really been bringing up the topic of his family often either.
because of that, astrid hadn't known about julia. and when she saw jules at school... well, she became oddly chatty with stefan after that. stefan was a little weirded out by it at first, but after astrid invited him over to her house, it all kind of clicked. astrid's mother suffered from the same thing that stefan's little sister did, and oddly enough, they were able to bond over that. seeing as astrid was constantly having to take care of her mother, it gave the student a new perspective on his little sister. it let him see things through his parents eyes, instead of his own. and it helped. most of the bitterness that he had felt towards julia for stressing out their parents was gone just like that, and so would have his perfectionism, if it hadn't already become such a horrible habit. but even that got a bit better, and stefan was able to accept that he couldn't be perfect in everything (though he still tries to excel in anything he tries). really, it was astrid and her positive opinions about her mother that helped fix stefan and his attitude towards his sister, and because of that, the three of them (astrid, julia, and stefan) became rather close.
in the last year of gymnasieskola (upper secondary school), stefan and astrid... well - with a lot of pushing from their other friends – started dating. stefan had loved her ever since had managed to change his opinion on people with disorders, but he hadn't realized that it was that kind of love until their friends started getting nosy. stefan and astrid were like a match made in heaven, even though they were never lovey-dovey like most of the school's couples. when the necessary school ended, though, astrid encouraged stefan to aim for bigger things. he'd spent so many years pretending that nothing was wrong, so by then, he was actually quite a good actor. “why not try out for an acting school?” she had asked. with julia in the swedish equivalent of higher elementary school by then, stefan didn't feel too bad about leaving the country for more school, and the prestigious la lumineuse in paris even accepted him on a scholarship. being supposedly perfect had paid off, hadn't it? the fact that his high grades and compliant attitude could get him into almost any school of his choice wasn't much help with astrid's theory that it was fine for him to be who he wanted instead of striving to be constantly perfect, but whatever.
paris was perfect for stefan, and even though he missed julia and astrid, he kept contact over the internet and visited them every summer. it seemed to take almost too long for each school year to end so he could see them again, but soon enough, he had graduated from la lumineuse and was able to return to stockholm to get his career in acting started. stefan found his place in a few swedish mini movies, and the fact that he was simultaneously playing one of the background parts in a small thriller just upped his reputation even more. as he grew more and more well known, his ego... well, actually, it didn't swell at all. years of dealing with julia's frustrated outbursts had taught him how to remain calm, and barely anything got to him in those days. but his perception of perfect was changed considerably, and he began the constant adjusting of his personality to please the public. the only people that he could be himself around were astrid and julia, but honestly, he didn't mind it too much. he liked the fame, and with the money that he was earning, it was so much easier to support julia, as if he was paying her back for all the hate he'd given her when they were both younger.
the lifestyle fit him, and in a little bit less than a year, he was called back to paris to shoot yet another movie. some kind of huge group movie with a lot of main characters, but stefan didn't mind that too much. the thing that he did mind was that he had to leave julia and astrid behind, but he could deal with that. it wasn't like he had to cut off all contact with them, right? right. stefan doubted the role he was casted in for a few weeks (he was tall, lanky, and rather effeminate. how was he supposed to play a mechanic?) but after all, that was why he was an actor. this was just a challenge that he would have to adapt to, like so many other things in his career.---------------- ABOUT YOU ---------------YOUR NAME, vince
