---------------- PERSONALITY ---------------
LIKES, the smell of fixer, black-and-white photos, maps, encyclopedias, mist and fog, kayaking, the ocean, almost all animals, thunder and lightning, wind, the color lavender, speaking French, skiing, indie music, lazing around, swimming, reading fiction, candy
DISLIKES, bats, apes (besides humans), math, analyzing, responsibility, her arms and legs being restrained, disrespect of or cruelty towards a living creature, pollution
FEARS, nothing major
PERSONALITY, Armelle was raised to be a confident persons, allowed to learn from her mistakes and do things her own way. (Although she doesn't often exhibit it outwardly, she knows that she is capable, intelligent and resourceful.)
Socially, though, she not quite a butterfly. While she cherishes her alone time, which mostly takes the form of wandering the city taking pictures or lazing around on the internet, she is friendly and reasonably good at making friends, who quickly become close friends and stay that way for years. She refuses to go to parties or concerts without someone she knows well beside her, and even then, unless several of her other friends are there, she is usually reserved and quiet.
Armelle is very much a free spirit, like her parents. She does not like responsibility because it ties one down, but she does enjoy relationships and love and, yes, sex.
She has only had one true love in her life: the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. She has visited far-off places for weeks at a time before, and she was always able to ward off homesickness by reassuring herself that she would be back soon, but her move to Paris is different. She has never been away from home for more than a month and now she has to get through eight of them, 5,000 miles away. Make that 8,000 kilometers. Armelle is prone to seemingly random bouts of homesickness which leave her depressed and in tears.

---------------- HISTORY ---------------
FATHER, Clément du Bois
MOTHER, Kimberly Atiken
OTHER FAMILY, Ivy du Bois, 10
HISTORY, Armelle's father was born and raised in Annecy, and only moved to the United States after he met Armelle's mother while on a business trip. Kimberly was unable to move away from her Pacific Northwest home, but with her new husband she visited France several times and embraced the language and culture.
So Armelle was raised bilingual in a small, friendly town on a small, friendly island in Washington. This area is a major tourist attraction, especially for whale-watchers and kayakers, and Armelle, like most people on the island, has lived her life to the easygoing tempo of the sea. She grew up familiar with the animals that inhabited the island and the sea around it--birds, deer, otters, seals, porpoises, gray whales, humpback whales, and especially orca whales (her mother runs a whale-watching business). This led to her fondness for almost all animals.
Her childhood was not marred by any traumatic events. Her parents, thought often separated by work, have been in love with each other for Armelle's entire life and their home has always been awash with that emotion. Her parents were and are supportive and free-spirited, believing that their daughter should learn through her own mistakes rather than theirs.
Armelle's interest in photography blossomed when she was thirteen years old. She began to use her mother's everyday point-and-shoot to take pictures of flowers and spiderwebs, and it became apparent that she had a natural eye for photography. Soon it became a major hobby and she was gifted with a fancy DSLR. She began to seriously consider majoring in photography, but at the same time her love of sea life made her want to study marine biology as well. Eventually, believing that there would always be time for everything she wanted to do, she decided to go to school for photography, and while her parents didn't exactly approve due to how difficult it is to make it as an artist, they agreed to pay her way through school as long as she was getting good marks.
After a year in an art school in Seattle and lengthy debate about whether she could bear to leave her wonderful home, she pursued the opportunity to study abroad in France, which eventually landed her at La Lumineuse.
