Soft music played in the Music Room of the school, a ghostly and enchanting sound of a piano escaped the cracked door softly. On the bench sat a brown haired girl. People knew her as Ericka Anderrose. The weird, quiet girl in the Music course. No one understood why she was quiet and in the Music classes, since most of the students were singers. Maybe she was just into the instrumental stuff, they thought. But no, Ericka was far different from that. See, the young woman was mute. Meaning she didn't talk at all. Now, she wasn't mute because a birth defect. She chose to be mute. The reason was in her past, and she would never tell a soul. Well, maybe she would one day. If she trusted the person enough.
As she played, one could notice the tune of the song being played as 'Someone Like You' by Adele. It was a beautiful rendition of the song, slow and enchanting. Ericka smiled softly as she played, wanting to sing the words that went with the song. She restrained herself though. Ever since that day, she had forced herself to never speak again. Which is how she had been for years. So, instead of singing, all she did was hum softly. But soon, she stopped herself. Her fingers gently tickled the ivory keys along with the ebony ones. Continuing to smile softly, the melody became much stronger. However, it went soft again.
She was mentally picturing the notes in her head as different colors. Her heart went with the melody and she was soon in a whole other world, it was just her and the music. She didn't even notice if anyone walked in.

Duck Young Kang wasn’t exactly a big fan of school, but he had to say that this one was one of the more interesting ones. He grew up in a strict Korean family that pushed Duck Young to be the best at everything. Often times, he met their expectations only for them to be raised once more. It was because of this he was so lazy. He finally had control over his life and what he should do when he should do it. Here writing was the only thing that mattered to him. Not grades. Or being the best. Simply writing what he wanted when he wanted just because he enjoyed to do it. He didn’t have to stay after class to appease his parents or anything of that nature. Which is what led the younger fourth year down the hall when he heard a rather… haunting melody struck him. He paused and tilted his head towards the music studio. Curiosity began to rise and he couldn’t help but to peek his head inside the room.
Duck Young blinked at the site. It wasn’t like he was expecting something magnificent to be going on. In fact, he should have guessed that it would just be someone at a piano. Still, he was curious. The young writer quietly snuck in to the room, tilting his head as he watched the brunette. Without even asking for her permission, he plopped on to the bench beside her and watched her fingers glide over the keys with a little smile. He had to admit that she was good.

Ericka felt someone sit beside her and she looked over and blinked, still playing the melody gently and smoothly. Who was this man? He was rather attractive and looked much older than her. Maybe three years or so. She wouldn't be surprised. Looking back down to the piano, she continued to play until the song ended and she looked over at the male. Curiosity killed the cat, is what the expression said. And he had a rather curious look on his face as she smiled at him softly and nodded a little in greeting. She then looked around to see if anyone else was around or with him. Nope, no one else. At least that made her feel a but more comfortable.
She blinked again as she looked at him. Ericka's heart fluttered a little, but she paid it no mind. The young musician knew that her heart only belonged to one person. And that person was Kaley. Her one true, first, and only love. And that's how it would stay too. She shook her head a little and looked back at the ivory keys. It was funny how music could bring two people together so easily and so...strongly. She didn't exactly know where this would lead. Maybe meeting this person beside her would be a one time deal. It wouldn't have been the first time. Especially if they hung out for a while then he left her alone. It stung her to think that, but that was life. Not really paying it any mind, she knew she would have to get to know him. Because, in all of her honesty, he was really attractive. Ericka always had a thing for Asian men and women. 'I will just continue playing....if he speaks then I will do the one thing I know how to do....talk to him with sign language.' she thought.

As soon as the melody was done, Duck Young smiled wide and clapped his hands together once. It was a sharp, loud sound and was meant to be some sort of awkward applause that ended just as soon as it started. “That was really good!” he spoke nearly flawlessly save for the Korean accent that laced his words. He watched her with that same smile and a welcoming glint in his gaze. “Oh, I hope you don’t mind me joining you,” he said after a moment and turned his gaze to the piano, “I was walking by and heard this melody and just had to check it out.” His fingers played over the ivory keys in front of him but he didn’t press down hard enough to make any music – or noise in his case. Almost immediately, his gaze jumped back up to the girl and he held out his hand for her to shake. “My name is Duck Young.” It was his entire first name but the way he said it made it sound as if he had given her his first and last name. European cultures were weird to him but he got used to it. After for years, he finally learned not to introduce himself as Kang Duck Young or else people would get his name confused. Here they didn’t put their family name before their first name. He supposed that family wouldn’t get you anywhere in life here.
“What else do you know how to play?” He asked after a moment, completely oblivious to the idea that, maybe, his company wasn’t wanted. If someone wanted to get rid of him, they had to be frank about it or he wouldn’t leave. Half the time he didn’t care, though. At the moment, he was kind of intrigued by this girl. There was something… interesting about her but he couldn’t put his finger on it just yet.

Ericka looked at the male as he clapped, blinking slightly with a straight face. He complimented the song, making her blush a little and smile. She could hear his accent and blushed more. Oh, that was adorable. His voice made her melt a small moment, but she regained her composure and nodded to him, giving a gently smile as if to say 'thank you'. He then spoke to her a moment later. She began to sign to him. "No, I don't mind. I'm glad my melody was able to bring you here. Maybe it means something." she smiled a moment later. Watching as his fingers sat idly on the keys to the piano, but he didn't press them enough to make a sound. Almost as quickly as his gaze went to his hands, he looked back up to her and introduced himself. She started signing again, this time introducing herself. "Nice to meet you. I'm Ericka."
Ericka studied the Asian culture a little when she was in Tennessee. So she could probably guess that Duck Young was most likely his first name, since certain parts of Asia did do that with their names. Smiling a little, she listened to him speak to her again, asking what else she knew how to play. Normally, she didn't like company. But this man was...interesting. And she wanted him to definitely stick around and talk to her. She looked down to think of what else she could most likely play for him. "I know how to play a lot of things really. Classical to modern." she signed to him.
Would if he didn't know sign language? Oh boy, then it would be horrible.

To be completely honest, Duck was a little surprised to find that this girl replied to him in sign language. He hadn’t been looking at her when she started but he noticed soon enough to at least catch most of it. The rest he could fill in. It wasn’t like it was too hard to do. He was also surprised by the fact the girl just assumed he knew sign language. Though, he supposed there was only one way to find out. If she was mute – which he was pretty sure she was – then it’s not really like she can just ask if he knew it. She had to try and see how he responded. It was a good thing he knew, then.
“Maybe it does mean something,” he said as he signed back. In case he made a mistake, she would have what he said as something to go off of. She obviously wasn’t deaf. She had understood what he said before, after all. But this… meaning something. He didn’t really think it did and it showed as he continued on speaking and signing at the same time, “It means that I’m curious, doesn’t it?” That was all he read into it. That he was curious in what she was doing. What she was playing. And, at the moment, who she was. “Ericka. That’s nice.” Her name was committed memory with her face. He knew he would never forget it, and this brought a shy smile to his lips.
His gaze fell to the piano keys again and he said softly, “I like classical. Care to play me something?”

She looked at him and gave a gently smile. Thankfully, he did know sign language. Ericka gave a relieved sigh and grinned a little. This was good. At least he could understand her. 'This is my lucky day. Thank goodness.' she thought as he started speaking and signing to her. She gave a soft, slight chuckle as he told her what it meant to him. But quickly, she shushed herself and turned back towards the piano keys. He said that her name was nice, making her blush ever so slightly. The young musician then signed to him gently. “Some people call me Eri, if you want to. Or you can stick with Ericka. Doesn't matter to me.”
He told her how he liked classical. At least Duck and herself had something in common. From a young age the girl had loved artists like Chopin, Mozart, and Beethoven. But, due to her father not really being into it, she never got to listen to it often unless it was on the radio. Ericka smiled gently, slowly nodding and placing her hand on the keys. Then, with a small and relaxed sigh, she began to play one of her favorites. It was calming, and a masterpiece by Chopin. Soon, she lost herself in the song and hand her eyes closed. She gently pictured the piano in her mind and where her fingers sat upon the ivory and ebony keys. It lasted for a few minutes, but as she ended the song her eyes opened. Her eyes then glanced over to Duck and smiled. Soon, she began to sign again.
“How was that? I hope you enjoyed it.” was what her hands signed out to the older male. But, something from the pit of her stomach made her yearn for something more. She wanted to sing to him. However, Ericka had sworn herself to silence ever since that day when she was a young girl. Biting her lip a little, she weighed out the options on what to do. For now, she decided it was best to stay quiet for as long as possible.
