Lily opened her eyes, lying on the bed in her small apartment. She looked out of the window and smiled. Snow was covering the ground. There was something about winter that made Lily happy. She drew energy from the snow and the Christmas songs... She had a good night at the bistro last night. The clients were happy and she got a lot of tips...
Getting dressed, grabbing her scratch book and Lily was out of the house. She locked the door and made her way out. On the way to Jardin de Luxembourg Lily grabbed a coffee to go and a croissant. As Lily arrived at the park she smiled. It was full of little children playing with the snow, their parents were smoking and drinking coffee.. Laughing. Lily was in Paris for almost two years now, yes she had some friends, but no one that was really close. She missed her parents... She had been home only once since she moved to france...
Lily walked to a bench and sat down. She ate her croissant and then pulled out a cigarette and her scratch book. She lit the cigarette and then she started drawing. She wanted to draw a family that was laughing as the kid was playing in the snow... She started drawing as she heard somebody call her name.

Luca walked along the path slowly, breathing deeply the crisp winter air. He loved the snow. Since he didn't have many friends yet, having only just moved to Paris this year, he often found himself wandering alone. It wasn't too bad, even if he was supposed to be a social butterfly. He often found himself deep in thought, and he didn't even mind that he had no one to tell his thoughts to. Today he held a warm cup of peppermint mocha coffee, a cream scarf wrapped around his neck. His hat-a cream pinstriped fedora-matched it, and the rest of his outfit was a nice neutral brown. He usually dressed in sequins and bright colors, but today felt like a toned-down kind of day. So he strolled through the park, enjoying the frost-encrusted scenery. Two children raced passed him-playing tag, he assumed-and he nodded at their mother as she passed more slowly. He took a deep breath and sighed.
As he looked around the park, he suddenly noticed a dark-haired girl, bent over something on a bench. She looked familiar to him, but he couldn't quite place it. She looked up briefly, and he saw the features of her face, as well as the sketchbook in her lap. Then he realized who she was. Her name was Lily, and she went to his school. She was an artist, and he often saw her sitting in stairwells or somewhere off in a corner by herself, sketching. He called her name and waved when she looked up. He walked to the bench and stretched out his hand.
"Hi. I'm Lucien Green. We go to the same school. You're Lily, right? The artist? Do you mind if I sit?" He sat down next to her, but far enough away to give her a little space. He knew from experience that artist-types weren't always big on company, and he didn't want to overstay his welcome. He smiled warmly at her and went on. "I'd prefer if you called me Luca or Lucy though. Lucien is just what my grandmother calls me." He gave a wink and chuckled lightly. He didn't peer at her sketchbook, though he wanted to. He also knew that artists sometimes were iffy about their work, and sketchbooks in particular usually held some dark secret longing etched into their pages. He wanted to give her the privacy she craved, so he didn't look at it, and didn't ask about it. "I see you around school sketching sometimes. You come here often?"

Always around Christmas Lily felt most lonely. The bistro where she worked was closed, the few people that she had a lot of contact to were with their families, but slowly Lily was getting used to it. Last Christmas it was the same story. On the 24th Lily cooked herself a small meal and put on Pride and Prejudiced and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, 25th she went to a co-workers home party where she felt totally out of place… On new year’s she got herself a bottle of champagne and sat down in the park with her sketchbook. Yes it was lonely, but soon enough Lily hoped that she would meet the right guy and would be able to spend a Christmas making her own family…
Lily was just drawing the child’s face as a familiar voice called her name. It was a voice that Lily knew she had heard but couldn’t say where, or when… She looked up to see a boy, who’s name she didn’t knew. Lily had seen him in the academy… It was his first year and he was majoring drama. Lily smiled. He looked… well somehow out of place, when he was lonely. She bet he was a social person there where he came from. Lily’s smile got brighter as he walked to her. He looked like he was out of a magazine… With her simple jeans and short fluffy jacket, Lily felt like the ugly goose. As the boy was facing her, Lily giggled. “Bonjour. Of course. You can sit.” She pulled her coffee nearer to her and clapped her book close. She brought the cigarette to her lips, took a drag and then looked at Lucien. “Nice to meet you… May I call you Luke? You don’t mind the cigarette do you?” Lily knew out of experience that the most of the Artists and Singers didn’t like smokers because of the high risk of ruining the voice, but Lily liked smoking… It relaxed her and made her concentrate easier…
Lucien was trying his best to impress her and Lily noticed that not because he was a bad actor, just because she had spend the last two years learning to see through the mask that people put on… She was too scared of getting hurt to let anyone in without being able to see through them. Yeah… I like it here… Its full with people, but not overcrowded… A lot of beautiful stories to draw… she smiled and looked around the park. I have to confess.. Even if I love winter... You should see it here in the summer. Its magical. she smiled and took another drag of her cigarette. How about you? Do you like it in Paris? You study drama right?
