the blonde stepped off the airplane and out of the airport. the cold winter air blew at her face, and she wrapped her arms around her black jacket to keep herself warm. her white scarf was dangling with the wind, and the only thing that she carried out of the airplane was a little brown bag that had a couple of cards and make up items in it. her cellphone was charged, and she just needed a place to go. except she didn't have a place. her friends were probably all busy. or they forgot about her. she couldn't go to school because it was only sunday, and she didn't feel like going to her lonely house. after being stuck in her mansion for about three months with her family, she needed to walk in the air. to look at new people and talk. she wanted to socialize, which was quite odd of audrey, but that's what she wanted to do. but she had no one to talk to. no one at all. she reached in her bag to get out her phone and to dial someone's number. anyone, but the iphone fumbled out of her hands and into the snow. oh bloody mary! audrey cursed quietly, as she reached down to grab it. wiping off the snow with her sleeve, she checked to see if it still worked. it didn't.
audrey's mood turned even worse as she realized that she didn't have any euros. her precious english pounds were all she had, and surely no taxi driver would accept that. no one would accept her credit card either, and she couldn't see an atm in sight. the blonde sighed and put her hands into her coat pockets and walked in the snow storm for a couple of miles. she got weird looks, surely what kind of girl in her right mind would be walking for more than five minutes in weather like this? audrey hathaway was. the girl looked down at her leggings, which were too thin. she thought that it wouldn't be snowing, because it wasn't snowing in her mother country when she left it. the girl wanted to go back to some place warm, maybe australia. but she couldn't just take another three months off of school.
the only reason that she was allowed to be missing was because of a family crisis that was happening in england. and the riots. there were so many riots that the government was worried about her safety. it wasn't all hush-hush anymore that she was in paris. in fact, everyone knew. and there was much publicity about paris and what she was doing. some of her friends had been caught by the paparazzi too, and surely they didn't appreciate it. she felt sorry for them, it wasn't supposed to happen. and the city of paris was in shock too. none of them knew that the minister's daughter was staying here. but now everyone knew. and it wasn't a secret anymore.
sooner or later, audrey was going to move again. she hated being treated differently. being special. and being in the limelight. maybe she would go to america. or spain. or germany. or maybe even china or australia. there were so many places that she could go. so many places that she could start over. audrey was sick though, she just wanted to have friends again. to talk and to laugh. to relax. she didn't want to make friends over again, and it was hard enough the second time. and it took so long. she couldn't afford to lose them again. audrey hathaway finally came downtown. she ordered a coffee and she went back outside before she got the urge to eat.
although paris had fixed so many things about her, it wasn't able to fix her eating disorder. the girl walked over to the eiffel tower, the first time she had ever seen it up close. she wanted to save it for a time when she was on a romantic date with someone, but of course that wasn't happening.. the figure was so big, so beautiful, and she understood it's appeal to couples. she knew how pretty it would be at night, because she saw so many pictures and memorized it's exact color and shape. it made her heart leap, and somehow, she knew that she couldn't leave paris. no matter how hard things got. she closed her blue eyes, and let herself whisper. i wish...

Something he wasn't used to, however, was the snow. Sure, it has snowed in Betws-y-coed, but he'd never been allowed outside to play in the fluffy white stuff. He'd been stuck in the house every time it snowed, nose pressed to the glass of his bedroom window as he watched the little flakes fall from the sky. In fact, his first time walking in the snow had been just a year after he had moved to Paris, and he still didn't like it that much. Snow was so cold, and even though he was wrapped up in two jackets, a scarf, and some sort of Canadian hat, he was still convinced that his fingers and toes were turning blue, though it wasn't like he could check without risking exposing himself to even more of the cold. He just wanted to get home, but Gareth never took taxis, so walking was one of the only ways for him to get around Paris. The metro was another useful way, and since he didn't want to walk all the way home in this weather, the nearest metro station was what he was aiming for at the moment.
He had just been taking pictures of the Tower for an assignment for class, and even then, it had been cold – thus the winter gear, but it hadn't started snowing until just recently. Of course, knowing Gareth, he had been so involved in his work that he hadn't noticed the increased cold and the snow until he'd started having trouble holding his camera with his nearly frozen fingers. Yeah, Gareth was pretty sure that it was unsafe to have bare hands in weather like this, but how could he make the camera work properly if he was wearing the only pair of bulky gloves that he had? The gloves were on now, though, covering the hands that were stuffed in his coat pockets, just as they had been since he had retrieved them from the small backpack slung over his shoulder. In the same backpack was his camera, lunch, and an album of all the pictures he had taken before today that pertained to the project at hand. It looked like his work was done for today, though, seeing as he had barely managed to get his backpack open and closed once again to stuff his items inside of it. No, no more working in the snow, but when he saw a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye, it seemed like his little trek home was going to be postponed too.
”Audrey!” he called, taking one gloved hand out of his pocket and waving at the younger girl that he hadn't seen in what seemed like forever. ”You want to see some graveyard pictures?” he asked, laughing and walking over to her. She looked a little lost, to be honest. Gareth had no idea where his friend had been for the past few months, but she was apparently back now. ”You look cold. Are you okay?” It was typical of the photography student to put everyone else before himself, and he would have offered his jacket if he wasn't so distracted by the expression on the musician's face. ”Where've you been?” God, he'd missed her... So much had happened that he had to tell her about, too! Like getting together with Cass, and the little spat they'd had about Sasha, and... well, a lot of things about Cass, but also that he was much more emotionally stable now. But he could save that for later, after all. For now he just looked up at Audrey, smiling, through there was a bit of worry hidden behind his eyes. Of course, now that the press was having the time of their lives telling everyone who Audrey was and that she was hiding out in Paris, Gareth's opinion of her probably should have changed. It hadn't, though. She was still just Audrey to him, and that was a good thing. lawl, gar's so social now... |

at the sound of his voice, she turned around and her mouth curved up into a huge smile. she put her own hands out of her pocket and waved back, her blue eyes were the exact color of the sky. hey gareth! she said back, she was never the one to shorten people's names, and that wasn't changing now. she gave a tiny little smile at his proposal, and then nodded. mm. sure, you want to hear some songs? she asked, not remembering whether he was the one who asked her to sing. he probably wasn't, but that wasn't a big deal. she put her hand back into her pocket and then walked towards the photography major. she gave a tiny little smile at his next question, wondering if it was worth telling him the truth.
well the truth would get out sometime, it just depended on when she wanted to talk. oh, i was in the mother country, she said, with her british accent, you know. politics and over-protecting parents. the blonde rolled her eyes, like it was no big deal. when it fact it was, overprotective was an understatement, but then again the brunette probably knew that. anyways, what have you been up to, stranger? she said, giving him a slight nudge. the girl knew how shy gareth was, and it was a wonder that he was the one to start the conversation. back when she was here for a long time, neither of them had been particularly social, which is what had brought them together at first. along with anouk and alexei and cass being in the same social circle.
where had cass gone? she knew that alexei and anouk probably would have gotten together, she was happy for them even if it hurt a little. but that was okay, alexei was just a schoolgirl crush, and she would have plenty of more to come. the blonde looked at her toes before looking back up to the older student and then giggled, have you managed to get cass to stay away yet? it was meant to be teasing, only since she knew how much gareth had detested the boy's attention. although she would never admit it, cass had started to grow on her, even with his flirtation nature and how he couldn't keep his mouth shut. she knew that gareth would eventually like cass too, just because of how similar the two were. and she wondered whether they were friends yet.
audrey loved the sound of gareth's voice, it was so calm and it helped her with her nerves. she had no idea how her old friends would react towards her after the scandals, and she was sure that their opinions had changed. but she was relieved that gareth still treated her the same. because she really wasn't different, people just happened to know more about her now.

His friendship with Audrey was one of the few easy going relationships he had, apart from the one with Sasha, so it was possible to act natural around her instead of awkward, like he normally was. ”I'd love that. I'm sure you've improved over the months.” He was just teasing; she'd always been good at singing, he knew that even if he'd never heard her sing. She was in the school, after all, and the headmistress's daughter herself had told Gareth that they didn't let anyone in if they didn't have talent. It was a prestigious place, and a good way to meet other artists with the same talent level as him... even if Gareth never went out of his way to talk to anyone. In fact, it had been a rare occurrence when he'd started the conversation with Audrey. It had only been because, well, she was his friend and she had looked cold. That reminded him, though... ”You look freezing,” he said, frowning. ”Do you want a coat?” He didn't want Audrey to, you know, die of the cold. Or get sick, which seemed less extreme... and it wasn't like he didn't have an extra coat to spare; wearing two was always useful.
”Actually, I don't know,” he said, his smile fading just slightly. His parents hadn't really cared enough about him to be overprotective, and he didn't know a thing about politics. ”I'm not as attuned to the world as you are. Hermit, remember?” He wasn't just a social hermit; Gareth literally ignored most of the world unless it was important to him. So he paid attention to Wales, Paris, and his friends, but not to Audrey's mother country. Maybe that would change eventually, but not any time soon. He knew better than to ask if it had been worth missing three months of school, though. That was the kind of thing that Gareth naturally worried about, but even though Audrey acted like the events weren't that important, they sounded pretty big to Gareth. Anyway, he was experienced in pretending that nothing was wrong, so it wasn't like he was completely oblivious to what Audrey was doing. He wasn't stupid enough to ask any more about it. ”Not much,” he said in response to her question. He hadn't really been up to anything other then, well, Cass, but guess what she asked about next? Nice timing, really.
Of course, being Gareth, he couldn't avoid blushing and shrinking slightly into his coat. He had no idea what Audrey's opinion on Cass was, but he was perfectly aware that the last time he'd seen Audrey, he and Cass hadn't exactly been on good terms. Back then, Cass had kind of been an annoying kid in Gareth's eyes, since he hadn't been very open to relationships or anything of the kind. It was kind of odd to think about how much things had changed in three months. Sure, he knew Audrey probably meant to be teasing, but nowadays he simply couldn't imagine getting Cass to stay away. It was just unthinkable. ”Er, not exactly,” he said quietly, his smile turning into something a little silly and boyish. Accompanied with his blush, his thoughts were kind of obvious, but he still said them. ”We're kind of dating now... I don't even know how it happened,” he said, laughing. ”I guess with Anouk pestering me about liking him when I thought I didn't...” Gareth had been in pretty heavy denial for a long time before telling Cass how he felt, which was embarrassing now that he thought about it, but at least things had turned out nicely. It didn't even occur to him that Audrey might not like that he and Cass were together. He tended to avoid analyzing things, so the possibility just slipped his mind. sew cute while talking about cass... |

audrey was always comfortable around gareth; they were both socially awkward. but maybe it was because of cass and alexei that she began to open up. the two boys had a lot to do with how she acted and felt now, she was fine with other people staring and flirting. cass and alexei were the type of boys, who weren't exactly trouble, but who weren't exactly the good boys either. she did have a crush on both of them, alexei more than cass. she let go of her ambitions with cass as soon as anouk and him became official, but when she found out that anouk secretly liked alexei, she let go of any romantic feelings for the two boys. of course, she had her own opinions of anouk, especially in the romantic field, but it wasn't her place to interfere with the drama. and anouk was her only girl friend. after that happened, she never really paid any attention to romance and dating. it was better to stand on the sidelines and help out, than to be caught in something like that and have her heart broken. she stayed friends with all three of them, and when she saw cass bothering another kid like her- she decided to step in and befriend him. the blonde shook her head at gareth's offer. she didn't want him to get cold, and besides, england was much colder than paris. no, no, i'm fine, i wouldn't want you to get a cold. she said politely, as she found a pair of mittens in her bag and put them on, showing gareth with a little girlish smile on her face. see, i have these. my fingers won't freeze off now. she gave a tiny laugh, which was like little bells that angels decided to ring. she looked back at the brunette with her blue eyes, and then laughed again.
oh right, hermit. i'll be the turtle. audrey said, giving a shrug. it was true, while she had become less socially awkward around the few friends that she had. she still had a tenancy to run and hide, especially when there was something that made her uncomfortable. that's why she spent her whole life hiding from the press. it was something to be called ugly and fat behind your back, but reading news reports and seeing her face on some gossip tv show was something that audrey couldn't handle. it didn't explain why she came to the academy for music. she loved music, and she hoped that she would pursue it for a career, but she did not want to get famous.. or more famous than she already was. she probably would spend the rest of her days sitting in bars and stuff singing songs. the fact that she was hiding for three months was because of threats in her homeland, but also because after the paris press got a hold of her real story, she didn't know how to react and what to do around her peers. she was the turtle, she was awkward and didn't know how to handle things very well.
audrey noticed gareth's blush, and she noticed how his smile turned silly. if she had the guts to stare into his eyes, she probably would have noticed that there was this 'love struck' look in them too. the same look that anouk gave to alexei and alexei returned. the same look that her parents shared privately. audrey nodded, and gave a little laugh. oh my gosh, gareth.. that's amazing. she said, giving him a little shove. there was no way that she thought that gareth would like cass back, and it was probably a good thing. she was happy for them, truly. so how is he now? still a bit full of himself? how are you? together? she teased, looking back into his face. she saw the full affect that cass had on her friend, he just seemed like a different person when he was thinking about the british boy. although she was happy for him, she couldn't help feeling jealous. she was still the only one in the circle of friends who didn't have anyone. and she was okay with that as of right now. she shifted her attention back to the man, and waited patiently, hoping that he didn't see the flicker of jealously in her face. he was a photographer, and they seemed to catch everything.
