all i wanna do, I ain't lookin' to compete with you beat or cheat or mistreat you simplify you, classify you deny, defy or crucify you all I really want to do is, baby, be friends with you. No, and I ain't lookin' to fight with you frighten you or tighten you drag you down or drain you down chain you down or bring you down all I really want to do is, baby, be friends with you. This blind date thing had been too amusing to resist. Plus, Oren needed to take his mind off things. He had spent Christmas here in Paris, and while he didn’t spend it alone it certainly wasn’t the same as spending it with family. He still got a huge batch of presents via air mail and he guessed his brother got the same batch in New York. Well, like Rhea said, enough long faces and it was time to have fun! They both had signed up for the secret santa thing and to be honest he hoped he wouldn’t get paired up with her. Having blind dates with someone you knew so well kinda beat the purpose of everything, plus he had ‘dates’ with Rhea on a regular basis. He was pleasantly surprised to find out the date was with a student named Scarlett.
Oren didn’t know much about Scarlett besides the little interaction they had online and the fact that she was Anouk’s best friend. Well if she was Anouk’s friend she must be a nice person, right? Well he was about to find out. They had agreed on a pleasant day at Seine River. Oren purchased tickets for an afternoon tour that would show them around the entire city channels and would make a stop at some famous restaurant for dinner. Seeing Oren was one to pull an all nighter full of fun he also pretended to ask Scarlett if she wanted to go to a club or something once the tour was done. After purchasing the tickets his little insecure side kicked in and made him wonder if the tour had been the best choice. He had been in Paris for a long while know while he studied and now that he was a professor and yet he never took the time to fall into this particular tourist trap so he hoped Scarlett was the same. There was also the issue about him being a professor and Scarlett being a student. Weren’t student/professor relationships like… banned or something? Well as long as no one saw them in here they wouldn’t have problems.
There he was now, sitting on one of those iron benches next to the docks where the white and quaint boat was waiting for the passengers to arrive. Since this was a date meant for fun he dressed rather casually but kept the details in check. Being the impatient little angel he was, Oren started humming to himself for entertainment and at the same time he pretty much sprawled himself on the bench and started singing some French song. He was in the middle of the chorus when a couple passed by him and shot him a pair of very weirded out looks which made Oren blush slightly and stop the singing. Just in time though, his eyes spotted Scarlett’s figure in the distance and waving his hand around he called for her. “Bonjour!” He smiled profusely hoping he got the right girl and wasn’t waving like an idiot at some random stranger. 507, for bubbles!, oren u r an idiot... |

The idea of a blind date intrigued her so she had signed up for it, she didn’t need someone to push her to sing up for it because she was doing this for herself. She wanted someone new in her life, maybe someone who could soon become something. She had gotten back from her three day trip in Hawaii with her father to see that the pairings had already been put up, so this was why her ‘date’ had been pushed back, she didn’t think the pairings would actually be done that fast but they had and she had been paired up with Oren. Or Professor Valentine as most kids knew him as, she was slightly surprised to be paired up with a teacher. Was this some sort of plan to make her behave or something? Though Scarlett wasn’t someone who misbehaved in classes, she did have childlike tendencies, which meant she was sort of a chatterbox and liked doing silly things, but wasn’t Oren as silly as her? At least…that’s what she heard from most of the students that were taught by him.
There was a moment or so when she had met Oren for the first time, he seemed fun so hopefully this ‘date’ would be fun. If she could even call it date, wasn’t it illegal for students and teachers to be dating? But…she was of age, and was she going to call this a date? Did Oren even think of it as a date? Who knew, she knew she just would have to go through with it, maybe the guy was nice…? Picking up her camera and stringing it around her neck, she made her way over to the Seine River, the place where Oren had agreed to meet her for the start of their date, it was quite weirdly romantic, though she wasn’t sure if the Professor even wanted her to see it that way. After the little tour of Paris through the river, they were going to eat dinner and the next thing on their date was a nightclub, which was funny because she always thought teachers were old…even though she knew from Anouk that Oren wasn’t really old.
She hadn’t been too sure if she should have worn something prettier than what she was wearing seeing as it was a date but because their ‘date’ seemed to be a little bit casual, she went for a pair of jeans and a big jumper over her, a nice small dress fit into her little purse in case he was actually sure about wanting to go to a nightclub, then she could change at the restroom in the restaurant they were going to eat at. She had planned everything out, well about herself, it was just if Oren would take it her way or take things another way. As she reached the benches next to the docks, she opened the lens of her camera, taking a quick picture at the vast seas that were moving softly through, people were getting ready for their boats and it was just cute. Looking around for her date, she waved as she noticed Oren. “Bonjour…Professor.†Smiling, she walked up to him, her camera already at eye level as she took a quick snap of him. “So how long do we have to wait for the boat?†Looking around, she smiled at him again, well this was going to be fun wasn’t it?

all i wanna do, I ain't lookin' to compete with you beat or cheat or mistreat you simplify you, classify you deny, defy or crucify you all I really want to do is, baby, be friends with you. No, and I ain't lookin' to fight with you frighten you or tighten you drag you down or drain you down chain you down or bring you down all I really want to do is, baby, be friends with you. Well, no bad luck for Oren, it was indeed Scarlett the one he was waving at and she happened to greet him back nicely enough. There was no reason for her to not be nice, after all people signed up to this blind date business on their own account. There was still the chance she expected to be paired up with someone in particular or that she was disappointed on getting him as date but… well Oren didn’t want to think about that, not yet at least. He would worry if she looked bored or annoyed or anything like that.
Blinking at the snap shot he was slightly surprised at the candid camera. Oh well, he should’ve guessed it, Scarlett was in photography after all, or that’s what he heard from Anouk. “Do I look good? Because I usually appear with a strange face in pictures.” Oren grinned before shifting his face for a pout. “And Oren is fine. ‘Professor’ makes me feel old and gives me the urge to start shouting orders around.” He fake shuddered before letting out a little surprised expression. “Oh! Almost forgot. It’s not a date without some flowers so… here you go, for the mademoiselle” He searched inside one of his jacket’s pockets and pulled out a small white daisy, perfect despite the fact that it had been stuck inside his pocket for an hour at least. “There you go, now we can have a blind date.” He grinned while sticking the flower in Scarlett’s hair and taking a step back to take a better look at her. “Parfaite, let’s go now! The boat leaves in about ten minutes—" His train of thought was interrupted by a man announcing in French, English and what sounded like Japanese that the boat was leaving. “—or maybe it’s leaving now. Come on, all aboard.” He beckoned for Scarlett to follow him as he crossed the adorned boarded bridge to the boat and offered her a hand.
“Have you taken this tour before? I’m very ashamed to say after 4 years of studying here in Paris and one year of working as professor, I haven’t. That’s why I wanted to try. A lot of tourists seem to like it after all.” He glanced at the rest of the people that would hop on the boat with them. Most of them were Americans, some Asians and a couple that Oren had no idea where they came from. “C’mon, we can get a good seat and make annoying side comments while the tour guide tries to explain things.” He sniggered for a second before stopping himself. “Sorry, that’s what I would do with a friend. I’ll behave. So, tell me about yourself? Why did you enter the secret santa thing?” The boat’s engine trembled slightly under their feet for a moment before falling into an even rhythm that was barely noticeable. At the same time the guide started talking as soon as the boat started navigating down Seine River. 501, for bubbles!, |

Scarlett needed memories of this day, it would go inside her portfolio for whatever job she would try to get after she graduated from the academy, and Oren was quite handsome for a teacher so he was sure that he wouldn’t mind, he seemed to be the type of person who liked being his picture taken and Scarlett was the person who loved taking pictures. She hadn’t actually expected to get Oren, in fact, Scarlett had no idea who she actually wanted but she got placed with a cool person…or she hoped that he would be cool, she didn’t really know Oren as much as the other teachers and students did, but hopefully this would be a day she would get to know him and have fun.
She smiled wide, hoping that she would be forgiven for taking a photo without his permission because he looked quite surprised that she had been taking photos, she didn’t want him to be crept out though, they were for memories for herself. Looking at the picture on her camera, she shook her head. “You look fine, sort of like a baby, but fine! Don’t worry about it, I’m not a person who takes bad pictures.” As he shifted his face into a pout, Scarlett took another quick picture, she didn’t tell people she was going to take pictures of them because they always wanted to make themselves look ‘presentable’ before it was taken and she wanted the nice, easy faces they made not the forced ones. “Haha, alright then Oren, that’s what I shall call you from now.” Raising an eyebrow, she chuckled as he told her he got her a flower, “Why thank you, that’s very sweet of you.” Waiting as he reached inside his pocket for her, crushed, but yet sweet flower, she stood still as he placed it in her hair and beamed when he told her it was perfect. The man spoke a lot of French; some words were much easier to understand because many of the teachers at the academy spoke French so at least she’d be able to understand Oren. Looking in surprise as a man announced that the boat was leaving, she followed Oren; a hand holding onto her camera carefully just to make sure that it wouldn’t fall. Taking his hand, she entered the boat with a smile and then moved her hand to fix the flower in her hair.
“I have actually never taken this tour before, I’ve never even heard of it so I’m glad that you suggested this. Not to worry, at least you’ll see it today.” Smiling, she stood close to him, taking another picture of the both of them this time. Looking around at the people in the boat, she was unsure if she should take a picture of them, hesitating for a few seconds she decided not to, she didn’t want to get into trouble after all. Moving in front of Oren, she made her way to a good seat, one that was sort of in the front and settled there while holding her bag close to her body. She waited until she was settled down as well as Oren before answering. “Annoying side comments it is, and we should try to confuse most of the tourists here by saying weird things and what not, it’ll be fun!” Smiling, she took a picture of the river as the boat began and looked at Oren. “I wanted to try something new, how about you? Why did you enter yourself for it?”

No, and I ain't lookin' to fight with you frighten you or tighten you drag you down or drain you down chain you down or bring you down all I really want to do is, baby, be friends with you. Despite it being winter, Oren had to admit it was a pretty nice day. His mood tended to swing a bit too much, sometimes from the weather and sometimes from a lack of attention. This time he had both though, a sunny day and a nice girl he could hang out with. Scarlett seemed the type of girl he would like to keep around, just like Rhea and Anouk. They all had different things of course, Rhea being his twin from another mother and Anouk being his favorite student. Scarlett just had that ‘spark’ that inspired something in him, as if they clearly should’ve been friends from before.
The boat rocked softly, it wasn’t a big boat but it was big enough to hold at least twenty people inside. Oren chose this one instead of the big more luxurious travels not because he was cheap, but because he felt the others were more about the glam and the drinks and not for the experience of getting to know the river. This was way more fun! Plus this boat only had one tourist guy and few staff which meant the chances of them getting kicked out for doing something random and stupid were slim~
“Oh, you see, I entered with a friend because I was feeling a little bit mopey and on the down side, but this is certainly fixing it.” Oren spared the ‘I had to spend Christmas by myself’ and the ‘I miss my family and my brother’ details mostly because he wasn’t as sickeningly clingish as he appeared to be. He had realized how annoying he could be to certain people lately when he went into depressive mode and only talked about how good the days with his brother were. He didn’t need to ruin a first date with a nice girl so he instead left it like that. “You know, holidays tend to do that. And also a bit of the ‘trying something new’. First time I’ve been on a blind date, I honestly had no idea what to do and I am not ashamed to say I saw a few girly movies to find out what to do.” Oren laughed at his own shameless confession. He was a serial flirter, not a serial dater so he really had no idea what to do with a girl besides buying the shop’s entire booze and getting drunk… but he guessed that was a him and Rhea thing and not something he should invite a girl to do.
“Time for some idiotic fun~” He nudged her arm and smiled before raising his hand in a very polite fashion until the tour guide smiled back and asked what his doubt was. “Excusez-moi, who is in charge of feeding the river monster?” He asked with that absolutely sweet and even childish glint on his eyes that anyone could bet their life and their mother’s that he wasn’t joking. “…Pardon?” the tour guide blinked a few times, not sure if Oren was actually joking or if it was a serious question. Meanwhile the rest of the occupants showed a wide arrange of expressions: the oriental people instantly turned their cameras to the water, some of the Americans raised an eyebrow in disbelief while others clapped in excitement. “Oui, who feeds the monster? I’ve seen it a few times so I was curious… unless it’s not a monster and it’s some Russian submarine creeping through the lake to spy on people…” Oren tapped his bottom lip and seemed to be deep in thought while the tour guide opened and closed his mouth, not sure of what to answer. Oh it was just too fun to confuse people with random and stupid things that Oren missed doing it on a daily basis… tourists were so gullible… especially if you had a French accent; they just bought anything 501, for bubbles!, :p |

Scarlett wasn’t the type of person to make friends with a teacher, she just didn’t seem to be the type of person to make friends with anyone old, of course Oren wasn’t old at all but she still had to see him, as a teacher type didn’t she? He seemed to be the funny type, a type that she could get along with so easily because they had similar personalities, it seemed fun and flighty. She wouldn’t mind being proper friends with Oren, he seemed like a nice person indeed, a child who would be worried if she was suddenly gone from places without a trace in the world, as if he were the type of person that would go to her in the morning just to help her out if she ever needed it. And that was what she needed in her life, she needed that little child who would push her to do her own things just like she did before and get out of this slump, this funk that she was pushing herself down into. She needed to get out of it; it was just something that she had to do because she was sure that people were not happy with being beside an unhappy Scarlett. She was probably just boring them to bits.
She nodded her head at his explanation. “Awww that’s good, you always need those friends that you can do these sorts of things with right?” she smiled at the idea because entering had really been her own choice, no one else’s. She began to wonder who Oren’s friend was, was it a girl or a boy? Everyone needed a friend that you could do these crazy weird things with and for Scarlett it was always Anouk or Maureen, one of the two who would make things better for her at the end of the day. She laughed, covering her mouth with her face as her head tilted a little bit backwards, the wind blew her hair over her face and got caught in one of her dangly earrings, so she had to cut herself short and sort out the mess that was forming on the top of her head. “That’s fine with me, as long as you know what you have to do. What movies did you watch then to understand what to do on your first blind date?” Scarlett just decided to be normal and casual for the first date because a lot of people did that and even though this was her first blind date, it felt quite normal actually.
Looking up with a small smile as Oren nudged her, she waited, leaning to the side of the boat a little, her hands on her camera as she took a picture of the tour guide before he looked over to see what Oren was going to speak about. Her eyes widened a little at the question, her teeth over her bottom lip to stop herself from busting out laughing. She nodded her head as the tour guide looked confused. “Oui, the river monster monsieur, I’ve seen it a few times around here and the guy beside me is not joking at all. It’s a dark grey; sort of like the jacket you’re wearing monsieur. Please tell me you know about this monster because if it does attack us then will you be able to save us?” She raised an eyebrow, her French accent coming out better than she had actually thought, as she tried to keep face serious and straight. She moved closer to Oren, an expression of worry on her face as she removed herself from the side of the boat.
