Emmi is everything that her therapist says she shouldn’t be, she’s confident and she has very high self-esteem, she’d always been that way. Even though she can’t hear she doesn’t let it stop her, because she doesn’t want it to win, she has learnt to lip-read, sign and she still speaks, even though it’s not as clear as it used to be. Her social life is her life, and she likes to act like there is nothing different between her and her friends but of course then there are those moments that it’s obvious, when someone calls her but from too far away that she can’t see them, or when she gets hit for not responding to a guy who wanted her attention. She doesn’t let it stop her, she goes out clubbing and listens to the beat on the floor allowing her to dance just like anyone else. She’s always been a dancer, it’s a huge part of what she was but as soon as she went deaf she decided that she shouldn’t dance anymore, and that took a large part of who she was. She’s also a massive flirt, and it starts off fine but as soon as they realise she can’t hear them or when she speaks they tend to give up, they think it’s not worth the hassle, what they don’t realise is, Emmi is probably less hassle than any other girl, she’s miss independent. She was told it’d be hard for her to stand on her own two feet and to be completely independent but she wanted to prove them wrong. Now she’s living in Paris by herself studying drama, which they told her would be impossible, she’d lost her hearing she wasn’t about to lose her dream too.

It was the 13th of December when Emmi Sofia Longoria was born, the youngest of three little girls to two very proud parents. She had a happy upbringing, being the baby of the family and the little star, she began to shine at a young age. She was only five when her pre-school noticed that Emmi was better than a usual child at acting, they told her parents to keep an eye on her and if she continued the way it seemed they should get her into the acting business as soon as possible. The thing was that Carlos and Maria believed in an old-fashioned childhood, they wanted Emmi to have the chance to just be a little girl so they ignored all advice and just let Emmi live her life, something that at the time she was grateful for but now she feels she may have missed her chance. Her sister’s were both pretty and each had their niche but Emmi really stood out, she just had an air of grace around her that her sister’s lacked, she oozed confident and people couldn’t help but pay attention to her, she would have been the perfect pageant child. However the Longoria’s weren’t into that either instead they enrolled Emmi in dance classes, believing that every little girl should have the chance to be a ballerina, Gabriella began to shine and Emmi didn’t want to lose so she kept working at it until she was brilliant at that too, another thing to put under her belt. Singing was of course the next on the list and although she was pretty good it was clear that singing was not to be her career, she had her heart set on acting.
However everything changed at 5.23pm on the 29th of May 2008 when Emmi was only fifteen, she was emitted to hospital after her boyfriend’s car was knocked off course by a speeding car in the opposite direction. The doctor’s assured her parents that her hearing would come back but it never did and the young girl was left permanently deaf due to the explosion of the nearby car. The Longoria’s later found out that the other driver was drunk but emerged completely unscathed, they vowed never to let this happen to another little girl and set about creating awareness to the dangers of driving under the influence. Her whole life changed, she set about learning sign language and she worked hard on lip reading, knowing that that would allow her to connect with the general public. Of course as she was already fifteen she was able to speak without too much of a ‘deaf voice’ something she was incredibly happy about. Drama was still an option in Emmi’s mind though everyone around told her she should find another ambition, she could tell when people were done speaking and she could speak, so she wasn’t really sure what the problem was, plus there had to be parts where they needed a deaf actress anyway right? She tried not to let it affect her life too much, after a year she had gained back her confidence and she knew that she wasn’t about to let her dream slip through her fingers. As soon as she was old enough she applied for the most prestigious school she could, landing herself in paris. She’d been rejected from Juilliard due to her hearing so she auditioned for la lumineuse without telling them of her condition and they offered her a place right away, which they couldn’t retract once she told them the truth.
