Thus, making him a sadistic fellow. He enjoys it when he can make a story out of another's misfortune, often causing the misfortune himself in order to get a great story as a reporter. He likes the darker side of things, always wanting to find a way to be a part of it. Hisoka is also very traditional, practicing swordsmanship as a young child.
On the inside, however, he is rather softhearted. Though it may take a while to get close to that side of him. He keeps his guard up, pushing people away in order to keep them from getting to close. He does like cats, being odd since he doesn't like anything cute and cuddly. Maybe it was due to him being taught that cats are mischievous and are natural tricksters.
However if he ever gets close to anyone, he is really protective of them and doesn't like them getting hurt at all. Which is completely against what he enjoys. Odd, hmm?
Oh did I mention he hates kids? He feels like they would get out of his way.

HISTORY, Hisoka was born in the middle of the night in the fall. From a young age his parent's knew he was horrible with playing with others. He hurt the other children and seemed to enjoy it. They believed this to just be a phase in his life, but later on they would see they were very, very wrong.
They signed him up to learn swordsmanship at a young age, in hopes that this would help him get out of that awful stage of violence. But, sadly, this would not be true. Seeing as how once he learned how to handle the swords he trained with, he used it against his father. How he hated the man. He was too kind for his tastes and he wanted to finish him off. But, his father too was skilled in swordsmanship and defeated the boy by disarming him.
This lead to Hisoka being thrown into a small basement underneath his home. It was a tight space and he disliked it. He became panicked, screaming and crying to be let out. It turned out to be his only weakness. Once he was released from that little place he decided to do things differently.
However, before he could actually kill his father, someone took that joy from him. Hisoka hated that and went in search of the man who committed the crime. Not for revenge on his own father, but because he was pissed he didn't get the chance to.
Though, the man never found the person who did it and relocated to Paris after his mother died. His only joy. Now, he believes he don't have to hold back anymore. Now, he can hurt whoever he pleases and love every second of it.
