HISTORY, annah was an orphan from the first few days of her life to the age of five. her birth mother was a foolish, pregnant teenager, and left annah literally on a doorstep of a lower-class orphanage. the standards of the orphanage wasn't a place a person would call home. many of the children were unstable/aggressive and the place was run by a strict, chronically angry woman. five years of this, and annah lost the desire to speak and became selectively mute, except when she chose to sing. singing became a source of comfort.
after she was adopted, annah's life changed significantly. her adoptive parents were kind, though overprotective and smothering. she grew a little bit happier--and slowly started to talk again. however, at school, she didn't talk much unless she had to. annah had a difficult time trying to befriend other people without getting too nervous, and busied herself with books and writing songs so she didn't have to.
