PERSONALITY, toshiyuki shimizu can easily be compared to an eager puppy or a lackadaisical cat depending on his mood or the time of day. a majority of the time, toshiyuki is full of energy he just doesn’t seem to have much to do with (especially if the weather is bright and sunny). he’s constantly moving even if it’s just a tap of his foot as he sits or the quick strokes of his hand as he draws. and god forbid someone starts a conversation with him; toshi is the absolute king of rambling. his over active mind and imagination can make some of the most unexpected connects between some of the most random things, and once something crosses his mind, he's not afraid to share it. the boy is amazing active despite the fact he's an insomniac. he hardly ever shows how tired he is. in fact, if someone were to take one look at him, they would never know that he doesn't get much sleep. he seems to always be running on the energy boost the body supplies once it hits that point just above exhaustion. however, he does have his lazy moments. if toshi happens to get a descent amount of sleep, he's actually a lot calmer than normal. he's capable of sitting still and his hyperactive personality is mellowed. when in this mood, he prefers to relax in his bed or laze around with his love. perhaps even go to the park and watch the aimless business of people.
there is a lot more to the little japanese man than just this, though. his imagination is rich and full of so many things, the only thing he could do with them spawned into his first passion: art. he absolutely loves to draw and paint and express himself through his work. since he hardly sleeps, he has enough time to do it. he's also extremely optimistic, always looking towards that so-called silver lining. since everyone around him seems to be a realist or a pessimist, he figures he should be the one to be that little ray of sunshine peeking from behind the clouds. toshiyuki is also horribly friendly. he was the kid you had to keep a careful eye on or else he'd get in a van with a stranger; he was just that friendly. if something sparks his interest, he's not afraid to start a random conversation with anyone. this made him quiet the social butterfly. toshiyuki is rather compassionate, as well. he's a loyal friend and loves to please and help anyone he can. he's always wearing a smile on his face that never fails to reach his eyes. because he's so active, he holds a great deal of stamina and a strong will. he's a determined little sucker and won't give up what he wants for the world. not even his collection of stuffed animals.

HISTORY, toshiyuki is the first child to the shimizu family. he was born in nagoya, japan to his father, one of the best lawyers japan has to offer, and his ex-model/stay-at-home mother. it would be safe to say that toshi had a rather plush life. though, early in his infant years, the shimizu's decided to move to america. west athens, california to be exact, where his father continued his career as a successful lawyer. toshi grew up speaking english and japanese since his mother could only speak the latter. even out of japan, he had a rather plush lifestyle. his parents bought a grand, two-story house. though, they refused to spoil their child. they bought him few toys and pushed him more towards school than anything else. the child grew up with the idea that the only way he could mean something to his family was to do well. his father wanted him to become something big, something like a lawyer or a doctor. he stayed up late most nights, working hard to please his father as he grew older. that habit and a mixture of anxiety and stress implanted a seed of insomnia. he had trouble sleeping a few nights out of the week. it wasn't until he grew older, though, that he had been diagnosed with insomnia. however, all toshi wanted was to be creative. he had always had a knack for art, even at a young age. finger painting grew to coloring and that evolved into full-on drawing and painting by the time he was thirteen. when his mother had become pregnant with his soon-to-be little sister, naomi, he begged and pleaded with her to let him design her room and when she allowed him to, his creative just burst.
toshi had managed a rather normal life up until he was sixteen years old. though his father wasn't exactly thrilled about the fact that his son preferred art (and by this time drama) over mathematics and sciences and stuffed animals over everything else, he let it slide. however, it was when toshi had turned sixteen that he became a homosexual in denial. he would bring home "girlfriends" so his parents would raise no questions even though he found boys more appealing than girls. it was at this moment in time where levi valentine walked into his life. almost instantly they became good friends. it didn't take long for toshi to meet levi's parents - both of whom were male. levi had been adopted and raised in an open-minded environment, something so different from toshi's home. he wanted it and so he began to spend more and more time over at levi's.
it was the valentine's that made him want to be honest with his parents. especially after a frightening yet touching incident that happened a few months after he had met levi. by then, he and levi had became official - at least in toshi's eyes. toshi had already had the inklings of love starting to grow inside him, but the feeling didn't make itself completely known until after they had shared their first extraordinarily intimate moment. levi had taken toshi's virginity. unfortunately, the bold event was marked with disaster. levi's parents had heard and burst into the room. toshi had never looked so much like a tomato before. he was so embarrassed and disappointed and ashamed that he began to cry. to levi's demand, his parents left the room so the boys could get dressed and toshi could leave. it was then that levi kissed toshi's tears away. in that instant, with that miniscule action, toshi fell in love with this boy. he had to tell his parents.
of course, neither of them liked that toshiyuki wouldn't marry a young, beautiful girl. keiichi hated levi and, in return, levi hated keiichi. toshiyuki had picked a passionate man to fall in love with and he knew it. though, he was upset his father disapproved of his relationship, he refused to give levi up. toshi spent more and more time with the valentine's and started to prefer them over his own family. however, he could never leave his family. he remained stuck between heaven and hell for the longest time.
they were kids in love, toshi and levi. even if their love was young, they believed it could last. levi held toshi's hand in the hallways at school, and though it resulted in bullying toshi could just barely manage to take, they never let go of each other. toshi was completely head-over-heels in love with levi. as the other slept, he made artwork for him. growing up in a rather musical family, levi expressed his love through music and learning japanese for toshi. levi also took toshi to events he knew he'd like.

they've been together ever since and though they're not married yet, they're love has never wavered. the only reason they hadn't gotten married was because they both grew exceptionally busy. levi had signed up with a record label before he turned eighteen and became busy with trying to start a career in his passion. toshi was doing the same thing. he exhausted his creative talents in school plays and dozens of pieces of art. he followed his dream in becoming a mangaka (or visual novelist) and created his first visual novel while levi was busy with recording music.
beauty queen was published on toshiyuki eighteenth birthday. within a year, it's japanese twin had been published and sold in japan as a manga. he loosely based the story off of levi's 'daddy' keiran valentine whom was a gay cross dresser that was told being who he was was wrong much like toshi is constantly reminded of by his father. toshi was recognized for his artist talent and the unique way his stories unfolded. soon after beauty queen came beautiful, a dance with anna, and prince charming. all of which were aimed at teenagers to let them know that they weren't alone.
toshi not only made it big in his visual novels, but in his dramatics as well. his leads in school plays soon evolved into small rolls in tv shows and movies. the fact that his fiance was a hit musician in america that was infecting the world certainly helped him. toshi had a knack for playing a multitude of roles. his first character was an artist in distress as a one time appearance on a tv show. he's played a young parent, a bubbly school kid, and a few other roles. he starred in a couple american movies and even was requested to play in a new japanese film when he was twenty. he became famous not only through his books and his acting, but because he does so much for his fans. randomly, he'll start conversations with any fan he can find, he's always up to give autographs, take pictures, and hug anyone that needs it. but it was through his japanese role where he had gained a role in the new french one as a dancer.
having been raised on two languages, toshiyuki picked up french rather quickly and he and levi set off to paris together - toshi to work in the movie and on his knew hit visual series suck it and levi to write and compose new music before they move back so he can record.
