-- today was a beautiful spring day in the city of paris. maureen wanted nothing more than to drop all of her books and run around the city that she loved so much. she would be silly not to take advantage of such a gorgeous day. she felt like she had been in a fog as of late, and she knew the fresh air and sights would clear her mind and do her a wonder of good. she threw on some comfy clothes, not really caring what she looked like. maureen knew what she was going to do today - she was going to play tourist.
-- but it was no fun rediscovering the city on your own. anouk! it had been ages since she had spent any real quality time with her friend since their trip to the spa. that had been a very nice and relaxing day. tourist day! meet me at the eiffel tower asap! surely a day around paris would be good for them both. they could just forget about their troubles and only think about happy things. not that maureen had many troubles, but life had been getting her down lately, and she wasn't sure why.
-- as she stepped outside, the city greeted her with fresh spring air and wonderful sounds. it never got old or boring. never once had maureen wished she was somewhere else. of course she was curious, but paris was her home and always would be. she couldn't imagine living anywhere else. she knew every road and alley like the back of her hand. and she could point you to the best shops and cafes. the city quite simply invigorated her! she glanced up and the eiffel tower loomed on the horizon. she loved the magnificent structure.
-- what maureen didn't necessarily care for, however, were all the tourists. they constantly bumbled about with their big cumbersome maps and packs. they always got in her way and clogged up the main roads; stopping to gawk at every little thing. how weird and scary it must feel to be in a place you've never been to before! let alone some place where they spoke a different language. that's what really scared maureen the most about going to someplace new. change more often than not scared her.
-- maureen didn't know how long she had been walking when she finally reached her destination. it surely hadn't been more than ten or fifteen minutes. not that it mattered. she had nothing to do today except spend it with her best friend. she spotted a little touristy cafe and ordered a very expensive coffee and found an empty bench to sit on to way for anouk to arrive. for now maureen would simply watch the people around her, and watch the true tourists seeing her city for the first time.

Life changed and Anouk knew that better than anyone else. What she needed now was to relax and chill and stop thinking about leaving the love of her life without a word, Anouk promised Alexei she was going to stay and that’s exactly what she was going to do. Once again she was sitting at home, watching outside the window looking for inspiration. Life had a weird way of making dreams come true and once they were true humans had a weird way of dealing with that fact; she couldn’t seem to grasp happiness as other people did though she was really comfortable now that the heavy burden of leaving was off her shoulders. Her mobile beeped and Anouk glanced toward the small table besides her paint that had her brushes, color, water and her mobile, the light indicating she had text was on and she checked it. It was Maureen suggesting a day out and honestly, she was getting sick of staying at home doing nothing all day long but paint unless she was with Alexei which made her incredible happy. Yes, that was what she needed, a day out with her friends.
Her life hadn’t been bad at all, in fact things where really good sure she had her downs and everything but she was engaged, she was happy with Alex and they loved each other. The academy was hard but it was to be expected and she could manage, so life couldn’t get any better for her. It could always get worst, and in fact Anouk thought about that more than once, that her happiness could go the same way it came, and that could destroy both of them. But she didn’t want to give wings to that thought inside her head because right now she was sure things were going to be perfect. She was happy, she was comfortable, she was good.
Glancing at the clock she ran to the bedroom and changed clothes, running the entire time until she was ready, grabbing her keys and things she would need she walked almost running to her car and drove to the Eiffel tower. It was a crowded place but she found a place to park. Anouk had been living in different places along the years thanks to her father’s job and she had loved that, she decided to stay in Paris when her mother requested her to do so because she wanted a family. She was used to European cities and also other cultures, she had been to very different places and some of them very exotic. But Paris was the place she had best memories of, though when she was back with her father he had this guy that had been her best friend and worked for her father, she had great memories of that time too. Now she was leading a very different life in Paris and was about to get married… married! Something she had always dreaded.
She finally made it to the tower and had to walk squeezed between tourist with their cameras and their lost faces, their exciting exclamations and the kids running and crying and being kids. Honestly, it was a beautiful day outside, it was finally Spring and it was warmer and sunny and the sun made things look different, brighter and colorful and she didn’t know if it was her mood that was making her watch the world in that light or it was really that way. She located Maureen in a bench with coffee on her hands and walked towards her, a wide smile on her face. “Maureen! Oh dear!! I was so surprised to receive your text!”

-- Maureen smiled instantly as her eyes found Anouk. It had certainly been too long. Just seeing her friend made her sad. She hadn't realized just how much she had missed her! She had missed all of her friends. What was going on with her? Maureen was worried she was changing...and not for the better. Maybe it was time she sat herself down and really decided what she was going with her life. Many of her friends and people she knew were growing up and moving on. Should she do the same? Should she finally focus on the future of things rather than just partying and doing just enough work to pull off good grades? That had never really been her though. Maureen had always loved life and enjoyed living it up. Her brother was the one that had always been the adult. He always told her to grow up. But she didn't want to, not yet.
-- "I'm glad you were able to make it! I didn't even think if you were busy." Maureen confessed a tad sheepishly. It was true, she had just been so excited to finally see her friend in what seemed like forever. She couldn't beat herself up though. Anouk always understood. But this time would be different though. Maureen was going to make more of an effort to do things with her friends again. She had to live. All this homework and overachieving was wearing her down physically and mentally. She was just now beginning to realize that though. Before too long she would be nothing than a shell. Just being outside and sitting down was clearing and easing her mind.
-- "How have you been!? I hear a lot of changes have been coming your way." A playful grin spread across Maureen's face as she patted the seat next to her on the bench. They did need this time to catch up. All girls needed it. Maureen was curious to know what her friend had been up to, and what exciting things were happening. Especially since Maureen had been up to absolutely nothing. Maybe she could take a vacation sometime soon. That would definitely clear her mind and renew her passion for life. But there was no way she could take that time off of school. Her aunt probably wouldn't like it much either. Maureen always spent breaks with her. She did miss her aunt. A weekend visit would be better than any vacation.
-- Maureen sipped her coffee and let all the sounds and scents and the entire atmosphere wash over her. Pairs invigorated her. It ran through her very veins. The sites never got old, not even the bumbling tourists. More often than not Maureen found them cute. She knew others didn't feel the same way and often grumbled about them getting in the way. They just wanted to share in the magic of Paris, of France. Isn't that why they were all still here? Maureen was more than glad to share her home city with everyone who wanted to get a glimpse at the beautiful place.
