PERSONALITY, astrid is completely independent, she had been from a very young age and would prefer to keep it that way. aid is something she won't take easily mainly because she doesn't want to be a burden to anyone. however, she also has the tendency to be a bit of a push over since her independence is accompanied by a selflessness she's never been able to get rid of. she spent her entire life taking care of her mother and this has affected her drastically. if someone asks for her help, she will give it without a second thought - as long as it doesn't require putting someone before her family. otherwise, everyone comes before herself. it's just something she can't help. astrid enjoys watching success in the making. she's a great support beam and encourages the ones she loves to be the best they can be.

HISTORY, astrid was... a horrible joke of fate according to her grandparents. she was not meant to be and had actually been planned to be terminated before birth. why? because astrid was a product of a rather cruel man with rather sick intentions after over powering her helpless, unprotected mother suffering from down syndrome. for whatever reason her grandparents did not abort her from her mother's womb is unknown to astrid. perhaps they were worried about damaging their baby further or perhaps they couldn't find anyone willing to accept a rape-victim-suffering-a-disease as their client. whatever the reason, astrid is thankful. not only was she born healthy and without any complications despite her mother's condition, she was raised well despite her grandparent's contempt. from a very young age, she learned that her mother wasn't exactly like everyone else. all to quickly, she was forced to grow up and aid in the caring for her mother. of course, she happily did this. she wanted to be the best she could be for her begrudging grandparents and her mother whom she loved dearly. instead of playing around outside, astrid would try and teacher her mother everything she learned in school as she grew up. she would finger-paint pictures for her, tell her stories acted out through her dolls, and even read books to her when she was learning to read.
as she grew older, she slowly took on greater and greater responsibilities. she and her mother did not live independently from grandma and grandpa rundstrom, though. they were too worried that something bad might happen to their baby again. and though astrid did not wish to bring any more trouble to their home, she wasn't able to stay completely innocent for long. astrid always had a little trouble in school. she rarely did her work but was able to understand things well enough to pass the tests. despite this, her grades suffered and kids, being kids, picked on her for it. she ignored them and became rather introverted, opting to spend time with her mother than anyone else. this was no secret. so when she was fourteen and one kid blurted out, "astrid is a retard just like her mother," she did not hesitate in knocking the kid's lights out. her grandparents, to put it nicely, were displeased and her mother was upset that she had been the reason astrid got in trouble, but they gave her a second chance by moving her to a new school. there, she met stefan.
she hovered on the fringe of his crowd, wanting to have a social life but not wanting to abandon her mother at the same time. she was hesitant about stepping foot into the pool of friends and remained that way. that was, until, she noticed stefan's little sister during a parent/teacher conference. after finding out that stefan's sister had the same disease her own mother have, she couldn't not try and befriend the boy. almost immediately, she started to talk to him, excited that maybe she could have a new friend. enthusiastic about the idea that she could know someone that wouldn't call her or her mother a retard. without fear, she invited him over to her house so he could meet her mother. with this, they bonded. stefan easily became astrid's best friend, and together they were able to cope with the conditions their loved ones face. astrid even did her best to help him with his sister, julia, and it seemed that they were quickly able to become close.
it was no surprise when they decided to take things a step further. astrid was timid about the idea of dating stefan. she loved him but she also loved the relationship they shared. she knew that if they were to take this next step, nothing would be the same. and if something were to happen and they would need to break up, she knew she wouldn't be able to go back to how they were. it took the rest of their friends and a lot of pressure for them to end up dating, but the moment it happened, astrid had no regrets. they were perfect. by the time necessary school ended, she knew stefan could do big things even if he didn't quite know it himself. with an encouraging smile, she insisted he took on acting. unfortunately, that meant he would have to leave. still, astrid regretted nothing.
while stefan went to school in paris, astrid found it difficult to continue with school in sweden since her lack of work in school made it look as if she was irresponsible when it was quite the opposite. her priorities just didn't put school first. instead, she managed to find a job in sweden to help support her and her mother. by then, her grandparents had helped them rent a small home for themselves. it was astrid's job to keep up with rent, however.
astrid was ecstatic when stefan returned home and only encouraged further has he got his foot in acting. she bought every single thing he was in, wanting to support him just as much as she supported her mother and herself. but all too quickly, stefan was pulled away again for a production in paris. but with her mother's encouragement and the promise that her grandparents would watch over her mother, astrid left for paris to surprise stefan.
