---------------- PERSONALITY ---------------
LIKES,
DISLIKES,
FEARS,
PERSONALITY, there's a sort of emptiness about luis. it's not shocking when someone knows all the boy has been through in his short life. unfortunately it's rare (if ever) that someone will know. luis doesn't talk about what's happened to him. both because he distrusts everyone around him and because he sees no reason to share his story. in his opinion it's better left unsaid. plus getting to know someone means getting close to someone and he has absolutely no interest in that. one might think that he'd get lonely but in truth luis has been on his own for eighteen years. it's not a new experience to him and he's so used to it by now that he has no desire to change it.
while saying he's a cynic may not be entirely true there's definitely a sort of pessimism that lingers around this boy. luis hasn't seen much of anything good in his life. he sort of doubts that there's even good in the world at all. sure, he experienced a bit of good in fernando when he was rescued and in alphonse when he lived with him but it was fleeting. worldly things hold as little value to luis as emotional things do. all in all he has nothing he really keeps dear to his heart. survival is what's important and as long as he's still breathing luis thinks that's enough. luxury would be nice of course but why would he dream about something that doesn't even enter his mind? if it is possible it is for other people. not someone like him.
there's almost always a cigarette in luis's hand so it's no secret that he's a chain-smoker. one might like to assume then that he likes cocaine as much as he treasures his cancer sticks. this assumption would be false. luis actually despises his drug habit but it's been a part of him for a decade now and he has no idea how to escape it. the few times he tried to stop all he knew was that it hurt more than he could take and he isn't going to try it again. the cocaine is just another portion of his personality as far as he can tell. while it might be that white powder that keeps him high strung it could also be that luis is just a jumpy kid. or it coulld be from all the violence he's experienced. either way he always as a weapon on him. hell, half the time he has multiple. feeling like he's actually safe doesn't happen, but he'll take preventative measures to ensure he at least makes it through another day.
luis has never really taken the time to consider his sexuality. from the time he lost his virginity on he's known that sex makes him money, regardless of what gender it's with. he sometimes thinks that girls are pretty and that men are handsome and sleeping with one of them doesn't phase him more than another. his morals are immensely skewed and many things other people might think are important luis doesn't even think about at all. he's socially awkward in a way. not because he's inept really but because he's never learned how to properly function in a society that isn't riddled with drug-inspired violence. he rarely smiles and it might as well be a mystery to most as to whether or not he's even capable of laughing. it wouldn't be fair to say he's depressed either because he doesn't know any better than to just accept his life the way it is.
while his demeanor seems melancholy and is often off-putting to other people there's no particular reason someone should actively avoid him. although luis has an affinity for guns and knives, has no censor on his word choice, smokes, and does cocaine, he's not actually a bad kid. in perspective he's quite a gentle person and doesn't have much of a temper to speak of. as long as he doesn't have to defend himself from harm it's unlikely he'll get angry for any reason at all. luis is quite passive and he has a tendency to just avoid conflict if he can. at the same time he's not really scared of anything either and this can make him come across as possibly aggressive. when it all boils down to it he's just far too complex for most people to care to be around.

---------------- HISTORY ---------------
FATHER, unknown
MOTHER, unknown
OTHER FAMILY, "uncle" miguel
HISTORY, the life luis was born into was anything but ordinary to many people's standards. he never knew his father or mother. he was raised by a man named miguel who he often called "tio," the spanish word for "uncle." despite the endearing family term the man never treated luis like a family member should. he often left the boy to his own devices, even before he could walk. the conditions the two called home was little more than a shack. despite being one of the top dogs in the drug cartel in columbia miguel was rarely even able to put food on the table. if nothing else at least he supplied his "nephew" will an abundance of cocaine, beginning when luis was just the tender age of seven. addicted to cigarettes since five years old and able to shoot a gun by eight, luis never had much of a childhood.
buenaventura is known to be the deadliest city in columbia. the violence didn't leave miguel and luis untouched. they were often robbed and assaulted. every day was a fight to survive. one day miguel lost that fight. luis was fifteen when his "uncle" didn't come home. hours turned into days and eventually the boy was forced to leave his home to seek answers. another drug lord found him wandering the streets, and recognizing him as miguel's "nephew" he attacked him, demanding to know where his stash or money was. a frightened luis explained he had no idea what the man was talking about. in a fit of rage the drug lord beat the kid within an inch of his life before telling him his uncle was dead and that the same would happen for him if he didn't have cocaine or cash when he came for it.
luis returned home, packing his few belongings in an old tied-off shirt and grabbing miguel's gun before making a dash to the door. just as he was leaving the drug lord approached, accompanied by two others who were told to kill the boy and search the house. luis raised his gun and was able to kill one of the others and the drug lord who were taken by surprise. the remaining man shot the boy in the shoulder before he was killed as well. terrified, luis fled from the city. he ran for miles until blood loss and exhaustion finally caused him to collapse. when he came to he was in an elderly man's house with his wound cleaned and wrapped. at first luis tried to leave, but was stopped by the stranger before he could shake himself from his daze. the stranger introduced himself as fernando. once he calmed the boy down he offered him food and a place to sleep for the night. hesitantly luis accepted.
before morning broke he left. after thinking on it he decided he wanted to leave columbia behind. luis traveled by walking. eventually he progressed to hitchhiking. withdrawals would often hit when he couldn't find that tricky white powder, and he commonly went hungry. after he made it up through mexico he managed to find someone transporting illegal immigrants to the states. he found a job new mexico as a busboy. the restaurant was raided a few months later and he narrowly escaped being caught and deported. luis moved up through the u.s. and soon enough he arrived in nevada. he met some other runaways who soon taught him that las vegas had another option for money making. one of luis's clients was a rich man named alphonse from france. he told the boy that he wanted to take him home, after some persuading luis agreed.
a fraudulent passport allowed him to hop on the plane and soon he was half a world away from his past nightmares. for a while life was simple and okay. alphonse provided luis with a roof over his head, as much food as he desired, and even spending cash. not only that but the man also taught luis some french and better english skills, along with various other school subjects. however when alphonse eventually discovered the boy was using his money on cocaine though the man threw luis out. nearing his eighteenth birthday in a country still foreign to him the kid had little option but return to prostitution. he made enough money to put himself up in hostels in the evening and get by on meager meals. he's been living this way ever since.
